LUBBOCK, Texas (October 12, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University's October shutout sequence will be put to the test 1 p.m. Saturday at LCU Soccer & Track Complex, as the Lady Chaparrals, who have not allowed a goal in the month of October, host No.9 Dallas Baptist for a Lone Star Conference tilt.

The Lady Chaps are 2-0-1 in the month of October and enter Saturday with a scoreless sequence of 276:44 and with shutouts in three consecutive games for the first time since the start of the 2022 season. They sit in a tie for third place in the Lone Star Conference with a 5-3-2 overall record and 3-1-1 in conference play. LCU is also in the midst of a four-game unbeaten streak, notching wins in three of those matches (3-0-1).

The Patriots enter Saturday's match boasting a 5-0-3 overall record and 2-0-2 in the Lone Star Conference. Dallas Baptist remains the only unbeaten team in the Lone Star Conference, with their last regular-season loss dating back to October 1, 2022—a 2-0 defeat on the road to Angelo State. In their most recent match, they played to a 1-1 draw at home against UT Tyler. On the road, however, they've been dominant, winning their last two away games with a combined five goals scored while keeping their opponents off the scoreboard.

Lubbock Christian and Dallas Baptist are no strangers on the pitch, having faced off 14 times since 2013. While the Patriots hold a strong series advantage with a 10-2-2 record, the Lady Chaps have had the upper hand recently, going 2-1-1 in the last five meetings. In their most recent clash, DBU claimed a 2-0 victory in Dallas on September 30, 2023. Both teams have struggled to win in Lubbock, with the last match ending in a 1-1 draw, and neither side securing a win in the Hub City since 2018 (LCU) and 2019 (DBU).

After Wednesday's match, Lubbock Christian crowned a new leading goal scorer, with Avery Jennings scoring both goals against the Falcons. Jennings' total of four placed her in the top slot for the Lady Chaps. In addition, Jennings is slotted in eighth in the Lone Star in goals scored. While Jennings may be the statistical leader, she is supported by a strong Lady Chap offense. Freshman Ella Spiller ranks third in the conference in assists, with four in the season. Spiller also has been responsible for scoring as well, netting three goals in her rookie campaign (second on the team and 17th in the conference). Guarding the net, LCU has a pair of goalkeepers in Kara Murray and Emma Wright sharing the spotlight. Murray has started the prior three matches (first appearances of the season) and has yet to concede a goal through three starts (2-0-1 record). She has a scoreless sequence season active at 270 minutes. Meanwhile, her fellow net protector, Wright, ranks seventh (in the LSC) in saves (25), eighth in goals against average (GAA of 1.235), saves per game (3.5).

Rather than relying on standout individuals, the Patriots prioritize teamwork, as shown by their impressive second-place conference ranking in assists with a total of 17 and an average of 2.125 assists per match. Dallas Baptist features 12 different goal scorers this season, with only three players achieving multi-goal games. Leading the offensive charge for the Patriots is Taylor Tufts, who tops the conference with 35 shots and ranks fourth in shots on goal (15), averaging just under two per game. Despite her high shooting volume, Tufts has found the back of the net only once this season. The Patriots' well-rounded attack is complemented by one of the Lone Star Conference's top goalkeepers, Breanna Bowen, who ranks fourth in goals-against average with a stellar .923.
