LUBBOCK, Texas (October 12, 2024) – After a successful home opener on Friday, where they secured a 3-1 victory against Texas A&M-Kingsville, Lubbock Christian University is set to conclude their home-opening weekend with their annual "Play for the Cure Pink Game." The volleyball match against Texas A&M International will take place at 2 p.m. inside the Rip Griffin Center.

LOOKING AT TAMIU
- The Lady Chaps were a perfect 16-0 against the Dustdevils all-time until falling 3-1 in their lone 2022 meeting (Oct. 15, 2022). The two teams have since split the last two meetings, which has LCU with a 17-2 all-time against the Dustdevils. The previous meeting was earlier this season in Laredo, Texas, where LCU fell 3-2 in the LSC Crossover (Sept. 21, 2024). Twelve (12) of the 17 victories have come in 3-0 sweeps for LCU (seven of last 12).
- Texas A&M International holds a 6-8 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Lone Star Conference after falling Friday 3-1 at Angelo State. After starting the season with a 3-1 win over West Virginia State, the Dustdevils faced a tough stretch, dropping five consecutive matches. A 3-2 victory against Anderson on Sept. 14 ended the streak. Since then, TAMIU has added three more wins, including a 3-2 victory over Lubbock Christian in a LSC Crossover (non-conference) event they hosted in Laredo.
- Tammie Jimenez is a first-year head coach at the helm of TAMIU. After playing at Frank Phillips College, she completed her degree at St. Mary's University and later earned a master's from the University of Phoenix. Jimenez gained coaching experience at Midland College, where she served as an assistant coach.
- Emma Lade has emerged as a key player for TAMIU, ranking 43rd nationally and sixth in the Lone Star Conference with 10.15 assists per set. With 558 total assists, she ranks 51st in the nation and sixth in the conference
- Lixai Perez, a fifth-year defensive specialist/libero from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, has been a key defensive player for TAMIU this season, ranking sixth in the Lone Star Conference for digs per set (4.53) and ninth in total digs (240). Nationally, Perez ranks 85th in digs per set among 295 ranked players.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- Lubbock Christian enters Saturday's match with a 7-8 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranked tied for sixth among LSC teams (with TAMIU). While the Lady Chaps have excelled on neutral courts with a 4-3 record, they have faced challenges on the road, going 2-5. They hosted their first home match of the season Friday and claimed a 3-1 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
-Some key notes from Friday's match: Lubbock Christian had four players in double figures in kills, and all four had at least 13 kills. LCU registered 67 kills and 61 assists in the match. Kayton Genenbacher. The mark was the most by a Lady Chaps setter in a four-set match since Erin Fischer contributed 62 in the previously mentioned McMurry match on Nov. 15, 2023.
- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Saturday averaging 37.9 attacks (per set), which ranks third in the Lone Star Conference and 29th nationally.
Kiana Fallaha and
Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 11.1 attacks per set (22nd nationally) and has 568 total attacks to rank 45
th nationally (third in the conference). Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 2,199, which is fourth in the conference and 77th nationally.
- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 439-212. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher currently sits ninth all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 2,707. Sept. 27 in Denton, Texas, she became the ninth Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 2,500 assists. Genenbacher ranks 23
rd nationally in assists per set with an average of 10.8, which places her third in the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 629 assists this season (third in LSC and 32
nd nationally).
-The Lady Chaps have shown potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and at the national level. Notably, the team's digs per set average of 16.1 ranks ninth in the conference and 78
th nationally, highlighting a solid defensive effort, led by
Leddy Rae Guinn (14
th in LSC with 3.8 digs per set). On the offensive side, the team's kills per set average of 13.6 is respectable, placing fifth in the conference, with
Kiana Fallaha (sixth in points per set and 96
th nationally, 3.87) and
Lily Bickley (11th in LSC, 3.7) leading the way in scoring (points).
Payton Murray has also been on display with double-figure kill efforts in five of the prior six matches and is averaging 3.39 kills per set over the six-match span.
- LCU has made notable strides in conference play.
Kayton Genenbacher has been a standout, averaging 12.8 assists per set (leads the LSC), contributing a total of 230 assists in five matches.
Payton Murray supports the offense with 66 kills (ninth in LSC), with
Lily Bickley (59) and
Bryleigh Schweer (51) providing a balance attack (14.8 kills per set for LCU with a .268 hitting mark, which both rank fourth in LSC). Schweer leads in hitting percentage at .356 and Bickley leads in points per set (4.19, seventh in LSC). Defensively,
Leddy Rae Guinn shines with an average of 4.72 digs per set.
