LCU Holds Staff Appreciation Night on Wednesday

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 22, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University plays host to West Texas A&M on Wednesday at the LCU Soccer and Track Complex, as the teams renew the Rivalry on the Range. The Lady Chaps are coming off a thrilling 3-2 home victory over Texas A&M Int'l on Saturday and they will look to continue to push toward a postseason appearance.

Lubbock Christian enters the match boasting a 6-5-2 record and 4-3-1 in Lone Star Conference matches, which has them at fourth place in the conference standings. In their last match, the Lady Chaps emerged victorious in an exciting 3-2 contest against Texas A&M Int'l, which snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Lady Buffs hold a 6-6 overall record and are 3-4 in conference action coming into Wednesday's matchup. West Texas A&M fell to No. 11 Dallas Baptist 6-0 in Dallas on Saturday. Before that result, they had won two straight conference matches, both in Canyon. Furthermore, the Buffaloes have not won on the road since their conference opener against Eastern New Mexico on Sept. 25.

Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M are longstanding opponents, spawning a title for each time the schools face off, the Rivalry on the Range. Throughout the women's soccer extension of the rivalry, there have been six total meetings between the Lady Chaps and Lady Buffs. West Texas A&M holds the slight 3-2-1 advantage, while Lubbock Christian has won the most recent matchup, a 1-0 victory in Canyon on Oct. 11, 2023.

The Lady Chaps offense continues to be spearheaded by two standouts, Avery Jennings and Ella Spiller. Both rank within the top-10 in points in the Lone Star Conference, with each holding 13 points on the season. Jennings holds the advantage in goals with five, while Spiller has the lead in assists with five. Supporting the tandem is Journey Curs, whose balanced three goals and assists has her ranked third on the team in points (9). The Lady Chaps have showcased depth among their goalkeepers, with all three of their current goalies recording a start on the season. Megan Mirabal got the nod in their last match, and she recorded three saves. In addition, Kara Murray has been the most common starter, starting in four of the last five matches for LCU, and she has the highest save percentage on the team (80%).

West Texas A&M is led by two of the best statistical offensive players in the Lone Star, Avery Putnam and Madison Stokes. Putnam ranks seventh in goals in the conference with six on the season. In addition, Stokes ranks eighth in the Lone Star in points with five goals and three assists. In front of the net, the Lady Buffs are led by Reagan Heelan, who ranks 10th in the conference in goals against average, with a 2.00 average. Furthermore, she ranks 10th in saves with 55 on the season and holds a 69.6% save percentage.

Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M will renew the Rivalry on the Range when they have first touch at 5:00 p.m. from the LCU Soccer and Track Complex.
