PUEBLO, Colo. (October 7, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University wrapped up their first day of play at the CSU Pueblo Fall Invite in second place out of 11 competing schools. The Lady Chaps scored a 14-over-par after round one.
Junior Ali Escamilla and Senior
Anaya Perales co-led the team with a score of 74 and two-over-par. This score put both Lady Chaps into a tie for third place, sitting only one stroke shy of first place heading into the final round. Escamilla and Perales will be in pursuit of their first individual victories of the season, as they finished in 43rd and second place respectively at their last tournament. Escamilla finished especially strong, recording a one-under-par score in the final nine holes.
Following the co-leaders, there was another tie, with
Alejandra Escobar and
Lily Griffin both finishing their day slotted in 11th place. These Lady Chaps carded a 77 through round one, which was good for five-over-par. Griffin also scored a one-under-par in the back nine of play to complete her first day.
Senior
Kyra Schmuhl rounded out the Lady Chaps team standings, ending her day with a score of 86 and 14-over-par. Furthermore, Schmuhl found herself in 45th place after day one of competition. While not contributing to team scoring,
Rianna LaFuente is participating in the tournament as an individual, and she concluded round one with a score of 82 and 10-over-par. This finish has LaFuente in 31st place individually.
Lubbock Christian will head into the final round sitting four strokes behind leader, Colorado State – Pueblo. The Lady Chaps will look to finish strong and capture their first overall victory of the season, in only their second tournament.
