PUEBLO, Colo. (October 8, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University completed their second tournament of the season with their second straight runner-up finish. The Lady Chaps scored a 30-over-par through two rounds of play at the CSU Pueblo Fall Invite. They fell just short of their first victory of the season, ending just eight strokes behind winner and host, Colorado State – Pueblo.
Junior Ali Escamilla secured her first top-team finish of the season, carding a score of 148 and four-over-par. In addition, Escamilla's strong outing gave her a share of the third-place finish overall, giving the Lady Chaps two top three individual finishers through two tournaments. She was bolstered in round two by four birdies, three of which occurred on the back nine holes.
Senior
Anaya Perales followed closely behind Escamilla, with a final score of 151 and seven-over-par. Perales finished in a tie for seventh place individually. Since joining the Lubbock Christian team this semester, Perales has placed within the top ten of individual standings and top two of the team standings in both of her appearances. Junior
Alejandra Escobar was the third Lady Chap to slot a top ten individual finish, ending her campaign with a score of 152 and eight-over-par.
Senior
Lily Griffin completed the tournament in a tie for 14th individually, scoring a 155 and 11-over-par. Fellow Senior
Kyra Schmuhl ended out the team standings, as she scored a 167 and 23-over-par. While not contributing to team scoring,
Rianna LaFuente participated as an individual and placed in sole possession of 31st, ending with a 163 and 19-over-par.
The Lady Chaps had another strong turnout in Pueblo, after finishing in second place in Estrella, Ariz. in their first tournament. They had exceptional shooting on the day, finishing first on par 3-hole scoring, with a 3.40 average and 20-over-par on these holes. Furthermore, Lubbock Christian finished second in par 4's, as they finished with a 4.29 average and 23-over-par. The Lady Chaps finished fourth in birdies for the tournament, carding 21 through the tow-round tournament.
Lubbock Christian will look to continue their strong start to the season when they resume play next week (Oct. 14-15). They will return to Colorado to participate in the Nick Turner Invitational, which is hosted by Fort Lewis in Durango.
