LCU Aims to Snap Two-Game Skid in Lone Star Showdown

AUSTIN, Texas (November 3, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University looks to close their road slate on a high note Saturday afternoon inside Recreation & Convocation Center, as the Lady Chaps face St. Edward's for a Lone Star Conference and their final regular season road game of the season.

LOOKING AT SEU
- The Lady Chaps and Hilltoppers are meeting for a 28th time all-time, as LCU has a 17-10 all-time advantage in the series (dates back to the 1987 season). LCU has won the previous two meetings, including a 3-2 win in the last meeting (Oct. 6, 2023 in Austin). In Austin, LCU has a slim 7-6 edge head-to-head against SEU. Three of the prior four meetings (including the last two) resulted in five-set decisions (all three are LCU wins).
 
- St. Edward's was off to a 3-3 start in LSC play last season, but then closed out the season on a 10-match losing streak to finish 3-13 in conference (tied for 13th in standings) and 7-21 overall. The finish had them preseason picked 12th in the LSC heading into this season.

- The Hilltoppers current eight-match losing streak and a stretch of 11 losses in their last 12 matches played has led to the resignation of second-year head coach Jared Te'o. Capri Davis is serving as the interim head coach. SEU sits tied for last in the LSC with a 1-10 mark in LSC contests, and they are 9-13 overall.

- SEU demonstrates solid standing in several key areas, with their success in aces and digs per set being especially notable. Ranking second in the Lone Star Conference and 102nd nationally in aces per set (1.74), St. Edward's maintains a competitive edge in serving that pressures opponents from the start of each rally. Additionally, the Hilltoppers rank second in the conference and 33rd nationally in digs per set (17.38). They have a strong rank in team attacks per set, where they stand 20th nationally and second in the conference (39.01).

- Althea Morris is ranking 30th nationally and fourth in the Lone Star Conference with 10.38 assists per set. Her 830 total assists places her fourth in the conference,

LADY CHAP NOTES
- Lubbock Christian enters Saturday's match with an 11-10 overall record and a 7-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranked sixth among LSC teams. They take a 3-7 record into their last road match of the regular season and seek to snap a two-match losing skid. They played their first 14 matches of the season away from home (includes seven neutral site matches…4-3), but have taken advantage of the limited home play, posting a 4-0 record on the home floor. Their four home matches is the fewest among all LSC programs, with several programs playing 12 games at home this season (In comparison, SEU is hosting LCU for their 11th home match this season).

- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Saturday averaging 37.5 attacks (per set), which ranks seventh in the Lone Star Conference and 53rd nationally. Kiana Fallaha and Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 10.9 attacks per set (23rd nationally) and has 624 total attacks (19th in the conference) despite missing six matches. Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 3,000, which is sixth in the conference.

- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach Keith Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 443-214. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.

- Setter Kayton Genenbacher currently sits seventh all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 2,957 (25th actively among NCAA Division II assist leaders). On Sept. 27 in Denton, Texas, she became the ninth Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 2,500 assists. Genenbacher ranks 15th nationally in assists per set with an average of 10.9 which leads the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 879 assists this season (leads LSC and is 26th nationally).
 
-The Lady Chaps have shown potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and at the national level. Notably, the team's digs per set average of 15.8 ranks eighth in the conference, highlighting a solid defensive effort, led by Leddy Rae Guinn (13th in LSC with 3.7 digs per set). On the offensive side, the team's kills per set average of 13.8 is fifth in the conference, with Lily Bickley (tied for seventh in LSC in points per set, 3.76) and Kiana Fallaha (tied for seventh in points per set, 3.76) leading the way in scoring (points). Payton Murray has also been on display with double-figure kill efforts in 10 of the prior 12 matches and is averaging 3.43 kills per set over the 12-match span.
 
- LCU has made notable strides in conference play. Kayton Genenbacher has been a standout, averaging 12.0 assists per set (second in the LSC), contributing a total of 480 assists in 11 matches (leads LSC). Payton Murray supports the offense with 139 kills (seventh in LSC), with Lily Bickley (129, 13th in LSC) and Bryleigh Schweer (111, 23rd  in LSC) providing a balance attack (14.5 kills per set for LCU to ranking fourth in the LSC, and ranking fourth in hitting with a mark of .245). Schweer leads in hitting (.316) and Bickley leads in points per set (4.09, seventh in LSC). Defensively, Leddy Rae Guinn leads LCU with an average of 4.08 digs per set (10th in LSC).
 
- Lubbock Christian University's volleyball team has shown resilience on the road, despite a challenging 3-7 away record (3-3 in their last six road games). Key contributors include Payton Murray (112 kills, 3.11 per set) and Lily Bickley (112 kills, 3.03 per set and hitting .316), who lead the offense, and Kayton Genenbacher, with 416 assists (11.2 assists per set), ranking as a critical playmaker. Kiana Fallaha and Bryleigh Schweer have also been offensive standouts, posting 87 kills and 85 kills respectively. Defensively, Leddy Rae Guinn anchors the backline with 144 digs (3.89 per set), contributing to the team's solid average of 15.84 digs per set, slightly outpacing their opponents.
