LOOKING AT CU
- LCU and the Aggies have met eight prior times, with LCU holding a 5-3 edge in the series. The first five meetings of the all-time series were at neutral sites. The two squads are meeting in Lubbock for a second consecutive season (LCU won last season 3-0 on Oct. 28, 2023) and the two meetings are the only ever meetings in Lubbock between the two squads.
- A rough 2023 season resulted in a 6-24 overall record with a 3-13 mark in the LSC, which placed them tied for 13
th in the standings. They were projected 13
th this season in the LSC Preseason Poll.
- Cameron's season has been challenging, with the Aggies holding a 1-24 overall record and a 1-12 mark in the Lone Star Conference. The Aggies have struggled both at home (1-6) and on the road (0-10), along with a winless record at neutral sites (0-8). Their sole victory came in a 3-1 win over Eastern New Mexico on October 9. Since then, they have endured a 10-game losing streak, placing them at the bottom of the LSC standings with a .042 overall winning percentage.
- Nathan Martell opened the season as the head coach of the Aggies, but currently serving as the head coach is Mariana Anastasiadi, who opened the season as a graduate assistant coach. The Nikaia, Greece native completed her playing career last season at Oakland City University.
- Despite a challenging season for Cameron, junior libero Shelby Rusch has proven to be a key player with her defensive contributions. Ranking 17th in the Lone Star Conference for digs per set with an average of 3.35, Rusch's defensive skills have been vital for the Aggies, who struggle in other statistical categories. She also ranks 17th in the conference for total digs with 268.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- Lubbock Christian enters Saturday's match with a 12-11 overall record and an 8-5 mark in Lone Star Conference play, currently ranked tied for sixth among LSC teams (would be the No.7-seed if LSC Championships began). They played their first 14 matches of the season away from home (includes seven neutral site matches…4-3), but have taken advantage of the limited home play, posting a 4-1 record on the home floor. Their five home matches is the fewest among all LSC programs (Sul Ross and Cameron, with seven home matches, is the closest), with several programs playing 14 games at home this season. LCU's final four regular season matches are at home (three matches remaining in regular season).
- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering Saturday averaging 37.5 attacks (per set), which ranks eighth in the Lone Star Conference and 68
th nationally.
Kiana Fallaha and
Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 10.9 attacks per set (30
th nationally) and has 711 total attacks (seventh in the conference) despite missing six matches. Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 3,338, which is sixth in the conference.
- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach
Keith Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 444-215. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher currently sits seventh all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 3,057 (25
th actively among NCAA Division II assist leaders). On Nov.2 in Austin, Texas, she became the seventh Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 3,000 assists, and it came on the match-point of a 3-2 win over St. Edward's. Genenbacher ranks 16
th nationally in assists per set with an average of 11.0 which is second in the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 979 assists this season (leads LSC and is 26
th nationally).
-The Lady Chaps have shown potential in several key statistical categories within the Lone Star Conference and at the national level. Notably, the team's digs per set average of 15.8 ranks seventh in the conference, highlighting a solid defensive effort, led by
Leddy Rae Guinn (11
th in LSC with 3.8 digs per set). On the offensive side, the team's kills per set average of 13.7 is fifth in the conference, with
Lily Bickley (seventh in LSC in points per set, 3.9) and
Kiana Fallaha (eighth in points per set, 3.75) leading the way in scoring (points).
Payton Murray has also been on display with double-figure kill efforts in 11 of the prior 14 matches and is averaging 3.52 kills per set over the 14-match span.
- LCU has made notable strides in conference play.
Kayton Genenbacher has been a standout, averaging 11.8 assists per set (second in the LSC), contributing a total of 580 assists in 13 matches (leads LSC).
Lily Bickley supports the offense with 165 kills (10th in LSC), with
Payton Murray (162, 11th in LSC) and
Bryleigh Schweer (128, tied-24
th in LSC) providing a balance attack (14.3 kills per set for LCU to ranking fourth in the LSC, and ranking sixth in hitting with a mark of .240). Bickley leads in hitting (.338, 11
th in LSC) and points per set (4.24, sixth in LSC). Defensively,
Leddy Rae Guinn leads LCU with an average of 4.10 digs per set (10th in LSC).
- LCU has showcased impressive strength at home, posting a 4-1 record in matches played. The team's offense stands out, averaging 15.1 kills per set and achieving a solid .249 hitting percentage, significantly outpacing opponents' .185 percentage. Strong setting has been a cornerstone, with LCU posting 14.2 assists per set, facilitated by standout performances from
