LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University Men's Basketball team squares off with fifth ranked Fort Lewis in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament this Saturday (Mar. 16). This is the second consecutive season the Chaps and Skyhawks meet in the round of 64.

LCU in the NCAA Tournament
This is the fourth consecutive season LCU has made the NCAA Tournament and sixth total appearance in program history. The Chaps have gone 4-5 in NCAA Tournament games. Last season LCU was routed in in the opening round 97-65 by Fort Lewis.
The Series
Saturday will be the 8
th matchup all-time between LCU and Fort Lewis. The Skyhawks have controlled the series, going 5-2 against the Chaps. This is the second consecutive season LCU and FLC square off in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
About Fort Lewis
- The Skyhawks are in their 9th season with Head Coach Bob Pietrack at the helm.
- FLC comes into Saturday with an 28-3 overall record and are ranked fifth in the latest NABC National Poll. The Skyhawks are the second seed in the South-Central Regional Tournament.
- The Skyhawks have won back-to-back RMAC Tournament Championships.
- FLC is led by RMAC Tournament MVP Obi Agbim who averages an 15.4 points and 3.9 rebounds a night.
- The Skyhawks score 86.3 points per game while shooting 48.8 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
The Chaps fell in the LSC title game to Eastern New Mexico 91-88 at Comerica Center Sunday (Mar. 10) on Lyron Bennett's buzzer-beating 3-pointer as time expired.
The Chaparrals had four players score in double figures, led by
Ethan Duncan, who had 22 points and two steals.
Kurt Wegscheider added 18 points, six rebounds and two steals and
Najeeb Muhammad chipped in as well with 14 points and six assists.
Lubbock Christian did a stellar job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 16 assists while turning the ball over six times. Individually, Muhammad was on top of the distribution list for the Chaps with six assists.
Last Time Out – Fort Lewis
For the first time in program history, the title of back-to-back RMAC Tournament Champions will reside with Fort Lewis after the Skyhawks defeated Colorado Mesa 86-75 Saturday (Mar. 9).
The Skyhawks shot a dominating 60.8 percent (31-51) from the field against the Mavericks 44.4 percent (28-63), 50.0 percent (6-12) to 31.0 percent (13-42) from beyond the arc, and 78.3 percent (18-23) to 54.5 percent (6-11) at the charity stripe.
FLC won the turnover battle by a narrow 17-13 margin and picked up 23 points off of turnovers against CMU's 16.
A Win Would
- Give the Chaps a 24-10 overall record and move LCU's all-time NCAA Tournament record to 5-5.
- Be the 245th win of the Coach Duncan era.
- The Chaps would advance to the NCAA Round of 32 for the fifth time in program history.
