LCU Takes Three-Game Win Streak Into LSC Series Against Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas (March 17, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University will play a Sunday-Monday Lone Star Conference series this week, as their three-game set at St. Edward's was moved a day to avoid weather concerns. The series gets underway Sunday with a single-game 1 p.m. first pitch at Diane Daniels Field.

LCU and SEU Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series over SEU, 24-8, winning 13 of the prior 15 encounters.
  • LCU went 4-0 against SEU last season, sweeping the regular season Lone Star Conference series, (defeating the Hilltoppers 7-1 and 4-0 in a doubleheader on Mar. 25, 2022 and following with a 5-2 win on Mar. 26 to complete the sweep) and then defeating SEU 6-2 in Tyler, Texas at the LSC Championships (May 12, 2023).
  • The Lady Chaps are 8-5 all-time against SEU in Austin. The two teams have not played in Austin since April 25, 2021, as the prior seven meetings have been away from Austin. LCU has won the previous three games in Austin (Mar. 19, 2019 was the last loss for LCU in Austin).
  • Skylar Herrera is batting .344 in 11 career games against SEU with 11 hits, a homer and four RBI. She has seven stolen bases in her career against SEU.
  • Riley Flores was 5-for-11 (.455) in four games last season against SEU, with a .538 on-base percentage.
  • Pitcher Maxine Valdez is 4-0 all-time against the 'toppers and has allowed one run in 22.0 innings pitched against SEU (0.32 ERA). She has 23 strikeouts in 22.0 innings (one walk).

Season Tidbits
  • The Lady Chaps are 14-11 on the season. They enter the SEU series following a three-game series sweep at home over Western New Mexico.

  • Returning All-Region selection and three-time All-Conference selection Skylar Herrera leads LCU in home runs with seven, which has her ranking second in the LSC with a pace of 0.33 home runs per game.   • Teoni Lamb (4-2) did not allow a walk for the first 17.2 innings pitched to open the season and ranks second in the LSC in shutouts (3, tied for 18th nationally).

Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 14th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Tuesday with a softball record of 540-185.
  • Along with surpassing 500 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,241 total games at LCU.

  • WNMU was preseason picked to finish eighth in the LSC in the LSC Preseason Poll.
