Four LCU Athletes Set to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships

LUBBOCK, Texas - Four members of the Lubbock Christian University Track and Field program will travel to Emporia, Kansas to compete in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships this Thursday-Saturday.

LCU National Qualifiers
Five events at the National Championship Meet will include members of the LCU Track & Field program. The men's program had qualifiers in four events and the women's program will partake in one event. A total of four student-athletes (three men and one woman) from LCU are part of a field of 754 participants invited to Emporia.

On the men's side, Bryce Spencer qualified in hammer throw and discus after winning both events at the Lone Star Conference Championship meet two weeks ago. Spencer enters the national meet seeded fourth in hammer and 11th in discus. At last season's national meet, Spencer placed 11th in hammer and 10th in discus. He holds the LCU program record in both events ( hammer throw - 67.82 meters, discus - 55.93 meters). 

On the track, Nathaniel Luna and George Garcia qualified in running events for the Chaps. Luna makes his first individual outdoor national championship appearance, qualifying in the 100 meter dash. He comes into the meet seeded eighth with a season best time of 10.23 seconds. George Garcia returns to the national meet for a second consecutive year, qualifying in the 400 meter dash. He finished sixth in the 400 at last season's national meet. Garcia holds the school record in the event (45.76 seconds). 

For the Lady Chaps, Anna Salisbury was the lone national qualifier, returning to the meet for a third consecutive season. She will compete in the 400 meter dash after finishing 11th in the event at last season's national championships. Salisbury is seeded eight entering the meet.
