GOODYEAR, Ariz. (September 17, 2024)
– Lubbock Christian University improved four strokes Tuesday, from their opening round Monday, but their run towards RJGA Shootout at Estrella title fell two strokes Colorado Christian and LCU finished in a share of second place in the 16-team event to open the 2024-25 playing season.
Continuing from her strong first outing,
Anaya Perales led the Lady Chaps with a score of 1-over-par throughout the tournament, ending her campaign with an overall score of 146 and 2-over-par. This stat line secured a second-place finish for Perales, who finished just 2 strokes shy of an individual win. She showed extreme poise late in the tournament as her birdies on holes 16 and 18 secured the silver finish for the Lady Chaps.
Another first time Lady Chap,
Alejandra Escobar finished second amongst the team and placed tied for thirteenth overall. Escobar had great improvement from day-one to day-two, as she was able to remove five strokes from her total in the final round. She finished the tournament with a final score of 151 and 7-over-par. Senior
Lily Griffin also showcased improvement between days, rebounding from an 8-over-par day one to a 3-over-par day two. This change jumped Griffin into third place in the team standings and into a tie for 29
th overall, with a final score of 155 and 11-over-par.
Alexandra Escamilla carded a two-round total score of 160 and 16-over-par, which led to a share of 43
rd place finish.
Kyra Schmuhl rounded out the Lady Chaps standings, finishing tied for 74
th and scoring a 171 and 27-over-par.
The Lady Chaps will look to build upon their strong first outing at the RJCA Shootout at Estrella and seek to claim a tournament victory later in the season. Their next opportunity will come on October 7
th and 8
th, as they will travel to Pueblo, Colo. for the Sam Proal Insurance Invitational.
