DENTON, Texas (September 27, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University opens Lone Star Conference play on the road, as the Lady Chaps, opening their season with their first 14 matches away from home, heads to Kitty Magee Arena Friday (6 p.m.) to face Texas Woman's before a Saturday LSC matinee Saturday (2 p.m.) in Wichita Falls, Texas against Midwestern State.

LOOKING AT TWU
- TWU has a 7-5 edge in the all-time series between the two programs. The Pioneers won both meetings last season: a 3-0 decision in LSC play in Denton on Oct. 11 and a 3-0 Sept. 15 matchup in Lubbock (LSC Crossover). LCU claims a 2-1 record all-time in Denton. The first four all-time meetings (of 12) were neutral site meetings and played between 1979 and 1988.
- Texas Woman's is riding a four-match win streak into conference play and they are 6-3 overall. They are 3-1 in five-set decisions, coming off a pair of 3-2 wins in the LSC Crossover (in Kingsville, Texas over Texas A&M-Kingsville and UT Tyler). TWU is 3-1 at home on the season.
- Going from TWU to TWU, Pioneers head coach Jessica Ransom is in her first season with the program. She was previously at Texas Wesleyan, where she claimed Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year accolades last season. The Pioneers are coming off a 19-9 season (2023) and they tied for fifth with an 11-5 record. They entered the season preseason picked fifth in the LSC Preseason Poll.
- They are well-positioned in multiple key statistical categories, including ranking third in the conference in kills per set (13.74) and fourth in digs per set (17.00), which reflect their offensive and defensive balance. Tori Woods is fifth in the Lone Star Conference for attacks per set, averaging 9.90. Additionally, Woods ranks 16
th in the LSC in kills per set (3.1) and is 18th in the conference for points per set (3.38).
- Setter Grace Williams is the reigning LSC Setter of the Week. The junior recorded a career high 45 assists and five kills with 13 digs against Texas A&M Kingsville before posting 30 assists and 14 digs against UT Tyler. The totals marked Reynolds' third straight double-double and seventh of the season as TWU moved its win streak to four matches.
LADY CHAP NOTES
- The Lady Chaps are seeking to end a their first four-match losing streak since 2022 Friday, as they also seek their first true road win (0-3) of the season. LCU, who opened the season 3-1, have dropped four of their last five matches. The latest was a 3-0 loss Friday night in Laredo to UT Permian Basin.
- LCU stands out in the attacks per set category, entering the weekend averaging 38.38 attacks, which ranks third in the Lone Star Conference and 26th nationally. This high volume of attacks is crucial for generating offensive opportunities, and players like
Kiana Fallaha and
Lily Bickley are at the forefront, contributing significantly to this statistic. Fallaha ranks second in the conference with 11.9 attacks per set (12th nationally) and has 474 total attacks to rank 20
th nationally (second in the conference). Overall, LCU's total attacks amount to 1,535, which ranks fourth in the conference and 56th nationally.
-Several key items came out of LCU's 3-2 loss Saturday in Laredo against Texas A&M International:
Kiana Fallaha reached 20 kills, marking her third performance of the season with at least 20 kills…
Lily Bickley was efficient in attacking situations in the match, accumulating 13 kills while hitting .520 (season-high percentage). Bickley helped LCU produce a .298 hitting percentage, which is their highest kill percentage in a losing effort since falling to Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 10, 2021 while hitting .304… Lubbock Christian is 2-2 this season in five-set matches. They went 4-1 last season in five-set matches. LCU has gone five sets in four of their last seven matches played…
- This season marks LCU's fourth season under coach Giboney. The Lady Chaps seventh head coach in program history has jumped into his 20th year of NCAA coaching. Giboney, who has four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven conference titles on his resume, surpassed 400 coaching victories in his first season with LCU and has a career coaching mark of 436-210. The Chaps head coach entered the season as the 29th best-active head coach in win percentage (.679) and as the 27th best-active head coach in victories (432). He has the third-highest win total of head coaches with less than 20 years of head coaching experience.
- Setter
Kayton Genenbacher currently sits ninth all-time in LCU's career record books for assists with 2,477. She needs 33 to become the ninth Lady Chaps member in program history to reach 2,500 assists. Genenbacher ranks 38th nationally in assists per set with an average of 9.8, which places her fourth in the Lone Star Conference. She has amassed a total of 399 assists this season (fifth in LSC and 35
th nationally).
- LCU has averaged 12.2 kills per set while allowing 14.8 kills per set to their opponents in true road matches this season. The Lady Chaps are receiving 3.25 kills per set on the road.
Bryleigh Schweer (hitting .465), averaging 1.75 kills per set, and
Lily Bickley (with a .314 attack percentage) are each with an attack percentage above .300 on the road. Bickley (7) and
Leddy Rae Guinn (5) have combined for 12 of LCU's 16 aces in road action. Additionally,
Kayton Genenbacher (9.3 assists per set) and Guinn (2.75 digs per set) lead LCU in key categories on the road.
