Lady Chaps Aim To Showcase in the Steel City Saturday

The Steel City Showcase Closes Saturday With a Pair of Matches on the Slate To Close Opening Weekend

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 7, 2024) – The Steel City Showcase and the opening weekend of play for the 2024 season comes to a close Saturday at Massari Arena, as Lubbock Christian University faces Lake Superior State (9:30 a.m. Central) and Minnesota Crookston (1:30 p.m. Central) in a pair of neutral site matches.

Tournament Notes
  • Lubbock Christian is 1-1 on the season after splitting a pair of matches Friday. The defeated Cal State East Bay in straight sets (3-0) before falling 3-1 to tournament host Colorado State Pueblo in their first true road match of the season.
  • Kiana Fallaha (23, 3.29) and Lily Bickley (21, 3.0) are each averaging double figures in kills per match and at least 3.0 kills per set through the first two matches of the season. Fallaha had at least 10 kills in each of the two games. She had a stretch of six consecutive matches with at least 10 kills last season. Bickley enters Saturday's matches coming off a 14-kill performance against CSU Pueblo. LCU (hit .212 last season) is hitting .224 through the first two matches this season with a pace of 14.14 kills per set (paced at 13.07 per set last season).
  • Freshman Leddy Rae Guinn started in each match at libero Friday and is averaging 4.71 digs per set on a squad with a team mark of 16.86 per set (averaged 16.35 last season). Guinn had her first 20-dig performance of her collegiate career Friday and has 33 digs on the season. Olivia Elofsson, who paced at 2.62 digs per set, has 25 digs this season (3.57 per set).
  • Senior setter Kayton Genenbacher moved into 10th on LCU's all-time career assist list Friday and notched her 25th career double-double of the season. Genenbacher's 2024 numbers include 9.86 assists per set, 2.86 digs per set, 0.29 assists per set, 1.43 kills per set and 0.29 blocks per set.
  • LCU has never faced their two opponents Saturday. The Lady Chaps, who had never previously played in Pueblo (in program history), face a Lake Superior State squad that is 1-2 and a surprising Minnesota Crookston team that is 2-1 (UMC went 4-22 last season).
