ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (January 26, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University wrapped up their time at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational with a strong showing in their field events.
The standouts included throwers in the women's division,
Abigail Jones and
Jazmene Duran. Both Lady Chaps competed in the shot put and weight throw and notched top five finishes in their flights. Duran finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.52m and finished fifth in shot put with a distance of 11.37m. Jones ranked fourth in shot put with a distance of 11.44m and tied for fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 13.82m. These scores placed the duo just outside the top ten overall, as they narrowly missed claiming provisional marks.
The Chaparrals were led by
Carter Wood, who's performance in the triple jump landed him second in his flight and just outside the top ten overall. The freshman recorded a distance of 13.31m in his first career meet with Lubbock Christian. Pole vaulter
Jeremiah Fernandez finished his day inside the top ten, after recording a height of 4.02m.
Lubbock Christian will return home to the Lone Star State to participate in the Stan Scott Invite and Multi hosted by Texas Tech University on January 31 and February 1.
