FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | LCU has now won six consecutive season-openers, dating back to the 2020-21 season. Their last loss in a season-opener came in 2019 against Regis (64-60) at the RMAC/LSC Challenge in Golden, Colorado. They have not started a season 2-0, however, since the 2021-22 season, when they rattled off a program record 20 straight wins to start the year.
2 | Despite the fact that the Cavaliers had a seven-footer and two players measuring 6-10, the Chaparrals out-rebounded them 45-38 in Saturday's win.
Antonio Pusateri led the way on the glass, pulling down 13 boards, which is the most by a Chap since Tiras Morton had 14 on Feb. 15, 2024.
3 | Lubbock Christian shot 53.1 percent in the season-opener. They shot better than 50 percent 12 different times last season, ranking near the top of the Lone Star Conference in team field goal percentage. For the season, they shot 46.9 percent as a team.
4 | Five different LCU players reached double-figures on Saturday led by 19 apiece from
Amondo Miller Jr. and Pusateri. Miller Jr. was three shy of matching his LCU career high, set on Nov. 26, 2024 against UT Dallas.
Alex Anamekwe did set a new career-high, scoring 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.
Lucas Mercandino and
Kendall Dow had 11 points each.
5 | The Chaps held UVAW to just 13 percent shooting from beyond the arc on Saturday. Last season, Chaparral opponents shot 32.4 percent on three-pointers.
