Five Takeaways from LCU's Season-Opening Win vs. Adams State
1. Freshman Poise at the Point
In her collegiate debut, freshman Meg Meekins looked like a veteran. She scored a team-high 15 points — including seven in the fourth quarter — and helped LCU close strong. Her energy and composure in clutch moments stood out in her first college action, as she fired up 17 field goal attempts.

2. Chappell's Leadership Carries the Second Half
Junior guard Kennedy Chappell came alive after halftime, scoring 11 of her 13 points in the final two quarters while dishing a career-high six assists. Her bucket just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter gave LCU its first — and only — lead change of the game.

3. Depth and New Faces Make an Early Impact
Twelve different Lady Chaps saw the floor, including five freshmen making their collegiate debut. The mix of veterans and newcomers produced balance, with six different players hitting three-pointers and the bench contributing key scoring bursts from Kimber Mathews (7 points) and Maddie Moyers (3-pointer, defensive spark).

4. Defense Turned the Tide
After allowing 23 first-quarter points, LCU locked down defensively — holding Adams State to just 17.6% shooting (3-of-17) in the second quarter and 34.4% for the game. The Lady Chaps forced 15 turnovers and held the Grizzlies to three field goals in the second quarter.

5. Same Tradition, New Energy
The victory extended LCU's D2CCA Tip-Off Classic win streak to four straight and marked their second consecutive season-opening win. With a roster featuring two freshman starters and only 79 combined career starts, this win showed the Lady Chaps' trademark resilience remains intact despite a youthful lineup.

FIVE THINGS ABOUT MWSU
1 > Missouri Western begins the 2025–26 season under first-year head coach Luke Scheidecker, the program's third different coach in three seasons. Scheidecker joins the Griffons after compiling a 231–22 (.913) record and six conference titles across eight seasons at NJCAA Division I Wabash Valley College. The Griffs are seeking their first win for their new coach, as they opened the season Friday with an 83=61 loss to No.1 and defending national champion Grand Valley State.

2 > Scheidecker inherits nearly an entirely new roster, with senior Meredith Rieker as the lone returning player from last season. The Griffons added 11 newcomers, including three junior college transfers and six players from NCAA institutions, two of whom arrive from Division I programs.

3 > Despite the turnover, Missouri Western has been among the MIAA's top programs in recent years, posting 20 or more wins in five of the last six seasons and earning three NCAA Tournament berths in the last four years. The Griffons finished 20–10 overall and 14–5 in MIAA play last season.

4 > The Griffons shattered school records in 2024–25 for three-pointers made (300) and attempted (949) — breaking previous marks by wide margins. That perimeter-heavy style helped MoWest defeat three ranked opponents, including a season sweep of perennial power Fort Hays State.

5 > In the 2025–26 MIAA preseason polls, Missouri Western was picked sixth by both league coaches and media voters. The Griffons' non-conference slate features multiple NCAA tournament-caliber opponents, including Grand Valley State, Minnesota State-Moorhead, and Concordia-St. Paul, all within the first three weeks of the season.

THE SERIES AGAINST MWSU
The two programs have only met once, and it was a thriller in a 2022 D2CCA Tip-Off event hosted by the MIAA inside Municipal Auditorium in downtown Kansas City. A contest that saw a combined 54 points in the third quarter, MWSU surged past LCU in overtime with a 101-96 win over the Lady Chaps.

PRIOR MEETING AGAINST MWSU
Kansas City, Mo. (Nov. 7, 2022) – MWSU 101 – LCU 96
No. 13 Lubbock Christian University fell 101-96 in overtime to Missouri Western State at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic, despite a (then) career-high 36 points from Grace Foster, which at the time, tied for fourth-most in program history. LCU trailed by as much as 10 points in the second half but rallied behind Foster, Maci Maddox, and Audrey Robertson to force overtime, marking the program's first extra-frame game since January 2020.

The Lady Chaparrals led briefly in the closing seconds of regulation, but Connie Clarke's layup tied the game, sending it to OT. Foster opened overtime with a layup, and Whitney Cox briefly gave LCU a 90-87 lead before the Griffons surged with a late 4-0 run, holding off LCU's final attempts. LCU shot 49.2% from the field and 87.9% from the line, tying for the fifth-most free throws in program history. Six Lady Chaps reached double figures, including Cox's first career double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds).

MWSU, led by Clarke's 34-point, 12-rebound double-double, had five players in double figures. Missouri Western's 101 points were only the 10th time in program history LCU allowed at least 100 points, highlighting the offensive shootout.
