TIPOFF
It's a short turnaround for Lubbock Christian, who is back on the court for a second-straight day in the Centennial State, taking on host Fort Lewis in the Skyhawks Hardwood Classic. LCU opened competition in the classic with a 77-75 win against Colorado Mesa, surviving several comeback attempts by the Mavericks. LCU is now 5-0 to start the season, which is their best start to a campaign since 2021.
FIVE THINGS TO FOCUS ON
1 | Although they have played three neutral site games already, Saturday will mark LCU's first true road game of the 2025-26 season. Last year, the Chaparrals were 10-3 in road contests.
2 | Amondo Miller Jr. had a game-high 27 points in Friday's win against the Mavericks, marking the third time in the last four games that he has scored at least 20. His overall scoring average of 23.8 points per game is the second-best mark in the Lone Star Conference.
3 | Antonio Pusateri scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, recording his team-leading third double-double of the season. He is atop the conference in rebounding with an average of 9.4 boards per game. As a team, the Chaps have not been out-rebounded yet this season.
4 | LCU shot a season-low 39.2 percent from the field in Friday night's win, and it was the first time all season they have been out-shot by an opponent. Still, they are shooting 50.6 percent from the field as a team, which leads the LSC.
5 | The Chaps recorded 16 assists against Mesa. They are averaging 17.40 assists per game this season, which tops the LSC. Five different LCU players have already reached the double-digit mark in assists.
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
- Fort Lewis has started the season 2-0 with wins over LSC members Easter New Mexico and Western New Mexico, but lost to WNMU in. rematch Friday night
- The Skyhawks have 11 people on their men's basketball staff, led by Jordan Mast, who is in his second season at the helm
- Three FLC players are averaging 15 points per game, led by Jaxon Smith with 18 points per contest
- Fort Lewis won both of their first two games by exactly three points
- This is a return for Lubbock Christian guard/forward Amondo Miller Jr., who played for the Skyhawks in 2023-24
THE SERIES WITH THE FALCONS
Lubbock Christian and Fort Lewis have met eight times in men's basketball, with the all-time series dating all the way back to 1973. LCU won that meeting and beat the Skyhawks again in 1975 and has not won again against FLC since then. In LCU's D-II era, they have met twice, both in Canyon at the South Central Regional. The last meeting came in 2024, with Fort Lewis winning 86-72, in a game where Miller Jr. scored 14.
