Meg Meekins was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, while junior guard
Kennedy Chappell joined her on the All-Tournament Team, as announced following the event's conclusion Sunday at the St. Joseph Civic Arena.
Meekins and Chappell led the Lady Chaparrals to comeback victories over Adams State (66–57) and Missouri Western State (82–75), extending LCU's D2CCA Tip-Off Classic win streak to five straight. The pair combined to average 34.5 points, 10.0 assists, and 7.0 rebounds over the weekend, anchoring a Lady Chaps offense that shot 42.7% from the field and averaged 74.0 points per game.
Meekins, a freshman from Nocona, Texas, made a dazzling collegiate debut, averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals while shooting 46.2% from three-point range (6-of-13) and 68.8% at the free throw line (11-of-16). She ranked first in the Lone Star Conference in scoring and three-pointers made during opening week. Meekins posted a team-high 15 points in her debut against Adams State, including seven in the fourth quarter to rally the Lady Chaps from a 13-point deficit. She followed with 20 points on 5-of-9 shooting in Sunday's win over Missouri Western, going 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and 6-of-8 from the stripe. Her nine second-quarter points keyed another comeback, and she sealed the victory with five clutch free throws in the final minute.
Chappell, the lone returning starter for LCU, averaged 17.0 points, 6.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 52.0% (13-of-25) across the two wins. The Heath, Texas native delivered a career-high 21 points, seven assists, and seven made field goals in the win over Missouri Western and drew 10 fouls in the game. She added 13 points and six assists in the opener versus Adams State, scoring 11 of her points after halftime to lead another rally. Chappell currently ranks second in the LSC in scoring (17.0 ppg) and first in assists (6.5 apg) through the opening weekend.
The Lady Chaps' strong showing in St. Joseph marked their second consecutive 2–0 start to a D2CCA Tip-Off Classic and their fifth straight victory in the event, which previous had events hosting LCU in Billings, Mont. (2021), Kansas City, Mo. (2022), Lubbock (2023), and Canyon, Texas (2024).
LCU (2–0) will return to action Nov. 14 in Pueblo, Colo., facing Colorado Christian in the opening round of the South Central Region Challenge at Massari Arena.
