No. 3 LCU Stays Perfect, Smothers Oklahoma Christian in First LSC Road Test

Chappell’s 20 Points and Late-Game Surge Lift Lady Chaps to 10–0 Start and 13th Straight Road Victory

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (December 11, 2025) – No. 3 Lubbock Christian University passed their first conference road test and remained unbeaten with a 63–55 road win over Oklahoma Christian Thursday, using a dominant defensive effort and a late surge from both the perimeter and the free-throw line to move to 10–0 overall and 3–0 in Lone Star Conference play.

Kennedy Chappell led the Lady Chaps with 20 points, five rebounds and four steals, marking her fifth 20-point outing of the season and her second straight. The junior guard did much of her damage after halftime, scoring 12 second-half points and going 8-of-12  from the line (all in the second half) while drawing eight fouls. Her performance helped stabilize LCU on a night when both offenses labored, and it marked just the ninth time in the program's NCAA Division II era that a Lady Chap posted a 20+points-5+rebounds-4+steals stat line.

LCU shot 43.1% from the field compared to OC's 34% and overcame a cold start from the perimeter. After opening 2-of-13 from three, the Lady Chaps hit four of their final five attempts, with two key makes from Tia Johnson during the final 11 minutes. Freshman Meg Meekins added 14 points and posted a team-best +12 plus/minus, her seventh double-figure scoring effort in 10 games.

The Lady Chaps took control early, leading for more than 35 minutes and building a 14-point advantage late in the third quarter. Their defense limited the Eagles to just two made threes on 11 attempts and forced 20 turnovers, which LCU converted into 21 points.

A 17–9 first quarter established the tone, and LCU carried a 28–21 lead into halftime. OC briefly pulled within five late in the third and again in the fourth, but clutch late scoring from Chappell, Tia Johnson and Meekins helped the Lady Chaps close out their 13th straight road win dating back to last season.

OC stayed within reach, but the Eagles never reclaimed the lead after the opening minute. Taylor Jackson anchored the Eagles with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Ahniya Melton added 12 points and five boards to give the Eagles a needed interior boost. OC also received 34 bench points—nearly double LCU's total—to stay within striking distance throughout the second half. Despite falling to 4–5 overall and 0–3 in Lone Star Conference play, the Eagles held LCU to matching its lowest three-point totals of the season and kept the game within single digits until the final minutes. OC's defensive activity forced 19 turnovers.

How It Happened
The opening quarter saw the Chaparrals take an early lead against the Eagles, finishing 17-9. Kennedy Chappell was instrumental, contributing eight points off 4-of-4 shooting, including a jumper with 18 seconds left on the clock. The Chaps, who had Chappell score four of her eight points during an LCU 9-0 run, capitalized on turnovers, with Kyndle Cunningham and the defense creating opportunities, including a block and a steal. OC, out-scored 14-6 in the paint during the quarter, struggled to maintain possession, committing five turnovers, while Taylor Jackson (4) and Sofia Lopez (3) managed to combine for 7 of the 9 points for the home team.

The second quarter featured a series of turnovers (combined 12 with 7 by OC), with both teams exchanging defensive stops and scoring plays. The Lady Chaps' Meg Meekins contributed significantly, scoring LCU's first five points to help maintain the visitor's lead. Deja Johnson added a three-pointer at 3:52, one of LCU's limited two of the half, extending Lubbock's margin to 26-16 (their first double-figure lead of the game). OC's Allyah Leusogi-Ape responded off Johnson's triple with an old-fashioned three-point play. Despite the Lady Chaps' going scoreless the final 3:51 of the half, they took a 28-21 lead into the break behind Meekins' five points in the frame. LCU out-scored OC 18-12 in the paint in the first half.

The third quarter featured balanced scoring between the Chaps and OC, each adding 16 points in the period, which was a tail of two halves. Lubbock Christian started strong with Martie McCoy's layup at 9:07, expanding their lead to 30-21. Raeghan Lee's layup at 8:30 further solidified their advantage to 32-22. Chappell supplied four points to get the LCU offense going with a 6-0 run, which was part of second half start that had LCU hold OC without a field goal for a span of 5:02 in the quarter (total span of 5:37 carried over from the first half). OC, after an 0-of-5 shooting start to the half and a 38-24 deficit (LCU's biggest lead of the game), responded with an 8-0 run capped by Kenzie Willis scoring a jumper on a fast break at 1:29 remaining, narrowing the gap to 38-32. Tia Johnson ended the OC run with a three-pointer, and in the final minute, Maddie Moyers hit a three-pointer with 38 seconds remaining, pushing the Lady Chaps' lead to 10 (44-34). Allyah Leusogi-Ape's last-second three-pointer closed the quarter at 44-37. Chappell led LCU in the period with four points.

In the fourth quarter, the Chaps maintained their lead with key contributions from Chappell and Meekins, who combined for 13 of LCU's 19 points in the frame. Chappell's defensive steal led to a fast-break layup at 8:36, which would mark her only field goal of the quarter (six of her eight points in the quarter were from the free-throw line). Tia Johnson nailed another three-pointer with 3:30 to-go to put LCU up 54-45, but OC stormed back with a 6-0 run to cut LCU's lead to 54-51 with 2:10 remaining. Leading 55-53, Meekins added a crucial three-pointer at 1:25, assisted by Raegan Lee, to spark a 6-0 run (a key-fought inside layup by Cunningham with under a minute remaining played a role in the run). LCU out-scored OC 8-2 in the game's final 1:25 en route to the 63-55 victory.

Game Notes
» Kennedy Chappell delivered another standout performance, finishing with 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals—marking her fifth game this season with at least 20 points and her second straight outing hitting the 20-point mark. Her versatility on both ends helped fuel LCU's first Lone Star Conference road win of the season. The stat line also places her in rare company, as it represents just the ninth time in LCU's NCAA Division II era (since 2013–14) that a Lady Chap has posted a game of 20+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 4+ steals. Additionally, she matched a career high with 12 free-throw attempts, as she drew eight fouls and went 8-of-12 from the line (all in the second half, as she had 12 of her 20 points in the second half).

» LCU matched a season low with six three-pointers, but they made the most of their shooting—woe performance from outside. They were 2-of-13 from outside until ending the game 4-of-5, with a pair of the three-pointers nailed by Tia Johnson (all in the final 11:07 of the game).

» It was not the best shooting night for either team, as LCU did have a shooting advantage of 43.1%, compared to OC's 34% shooting. OC was just 2-of-11 (18.2%) from outside, while LCU shot a season low from the free-throw line (13/22, 59.1%). From the field, LCU did have a stretch in which they were 7-of-9 from the field in the opening half, and OC had a 6-of-10 shooting stretch in the second half, but neither team made more than three consecutive field goal attempts in the game.

» Freshman Meg Meekins finished with 14 points and a team-leading +12 plus/minus to complete her seventh double-figure point performance of the season (in 10 games).

» LCU, who went 11-1 in road contests last season, improved to 3-0 in road play this season and their road win streak, carried over from last season, extends to 13 consecutive road wins.

» The Lady Chaps claimed their 23rd straight victory (in the head-to-head series) over OC and 11th straight at Eagles' Nest to extend their all-time series lead to 34-29 against OC (series dates back to 1979).
