No. 4 Chaps Wrangle Rams

LCU Improves to 8-0 Overall

LUBBOCK, Texas (December 6, 2025) — It was a hard-fought battle,  but Lubbock Christian University prevailed over Angelo State University 68-62 on Saturday afternoon at the Rip Griffin Center, winning their eighth-straight game to start the season.

The Chaparrals led by five at halftime and maintained their advantage throughout the second half, bolstered by a solid defensive effort with six steals and dominating the boards with 41 rebounds. Angelo St. out-scored the Chaps in the paint, but struggled from beyond the arc in the loss

Lubbock Christian improved to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in Lone Star Conference play. Angelo State now holds an 8-3 overall record and is 0-2 in the Lone Star Conference.

LCU opened the first half with a strong offensive performance, highlighted by a quick start that included a 10–4 lead at the 15:39 mark that Antonio Pusateri capped off with a breakaway dunk. The Chaps lead by as many as eight in the early minutes of the game, but ASU had closed the gap to just one at the 12:26 mark.

Another 12-4 LCU run later, and the Chaps were back up by 11 as the two teams see-sawed back and forth. Amondo Miller Jr. continued his strong offensive start to the season with 11 points in the half, but also pulled down seven of his game-high 12 rebounds in the first 20 minutes to limit the Rams' second chance opportunities.

Kendall Dow hit a three with just nine seconds left in the half, but ASU responded with a buzzer-beating shot of their own and LCU went into the locker room up 38-33.

Angelo State pulled within one again in the first minute of the second half, refusing to go away quietly. Back-to-back layups from Miller Jr. gave the Chaps some breathing room, which LCU was able to maintain for most of the remainder of the game.

LCU only got the lead to double-digits one more time - leading by 10 at the 8:08 mark after a Leo Nordberg three-pointer. The slimmest the lead got as the clock wound down was with just over three minutes to play when a Jordan Crawford layup cut it to three.

Miller Jr. got to the free throw line on the ensuing possession and knocked down the free throws, and the Chaps were solid at the line to close out the seven-point win.

Miller Jr.  led with 23 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the field, and collected his third double-double of the season with 12 rebounds. Dow added 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and recorded one assist. Anamekwe contributed eight points and two blocks, securing seven rebounds in the process. Pusateri finished with 11 points and two blocks, while also gathering nine rebounds.

GAME NOTES:
- Nordberg made his first career start in the game and pulled down a career-high five rebounds
- Miller's 23-point performance gave him his sixth 20-point game in eight chances this season
- The Chaparrals finished with a plus-10 rebounding margin after out-rebounding UT Permian Basin by 15 on Wednesday. They are averaging 6.5 more rebounds per game than their opponents
- Dow has reached double-figures in all eight games so far this season after doing so only six times all of last season
- All but two of Lubbock Christian's points came from their five players in the starting lineup. The only two bench points came from a pair of free throws by Lee Van der Westhazen in the first half

NEXT UP:
