LUBBOCK, Texas (February 18, 2025) - Lubbock Christian senior left-hander
Ryan Markwardt was named the South Central Region Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, the association announced on Tuesday.
Markwardt tossed a complete-game shutout on Saturday against Oklahoma Christian, allowing just one hit and striking out nine with no walks. He faced only one batter over the minimum in the game, retiring the final 19 batters of the game. The Chaparrals won the game 9-0.
This season, Markwardt has a 2-1 record with a 3.31 ERA in 16.1 innings of work. His 20 total strikeouts are the fifth-most in the Lone Star Conference against just six walks. Opponents are batting just .153 against him. The Itasca native has yet to allow a two-out hit this season in 16 chances.
Lubbock Chrisitan is currently 7-5 on the season with wins in seven of their last eight games. The Chaps will be on the road this weekend, taking on St. Mary's in a four-game series in San Antonio. Game one is set for 3 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
