DALLAS, Texas (February 20, 2025) - Lubbock Christian Senior left-hander
Ryan Markwardt was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Week, the association announced on Thursday.
The award comes on the heels of of his selection as NCBWA South Central Region and Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week. In his start against Oklahoma Christian last weekend, Markwardt faced just one batter over the minimum in a complete-game shutout. He allowed just one hit - to the very first batter of the game - and hit one batter that was later erased on a caught stealing. The Itasca native retired the final 19 Eagle batters he faced in a row, striking out nine.
Markwardt is 2-1 on the young season has a 3.31 ERA in in 16.1 innings of work. Opponents are batting just .153 against the left-hander and he has posted a WHIP of 0.92. His 20 strikeouts rank fifth in the Lone Star Conference and he has walked just six batters. Right-handed hitters are batting just .130 against Markwardt, and he has yet to allow a two-out hit this season (0-16).
Lubbock Chrisitan is currently 7-5 on the season with wins in seven of their last eight games. The Chaps will be on the road this weekend, taking on St. Mary's in a four-game series in San Antonio. Game one is set for 3 p.m. at Dickson Stadium.
