ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (February 23, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University finished their first postseason meet of the indoor season over the weekend, taking part in the 2025 Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. The Chaparrals and Lady Chaps made their presence known, recording medals in four events and rewriting nearly their entire record book.
For the Chaparrals, their first medalists came in the long jump, sending two members to the winner's podium. Freshman Preston Neumeier continued to shine in his inaugural season, finishing as the silver medalist and breaking the previous LCU record. Neumeier had a distance of 7.21m to surpass the prior record of 7.07m set in 2022. Kevin Washington narrowly trailed Neumeier, taking home the bronze medal with a distance of 7.15m, breaking his personal record in the event.
The next medaling event for the Chaparrals was the men's distance medley relay, as Hagen Sage, Aden Soto, Caden Nunn and Samuel Bryan took home the bronze medal. This was the first time this season that Lubbock Christian participated in the event, marking an impressive 10:29.90.
On Saturday, Lubbock Christian added two more medals, the first coming from Daniel Sianez in the 400-meter dash. Sianez secured a bronze medal after a time of 47.49, which was .01 away from the silver medalist and .06 from the gold finisher. With this strong performance, Sianez became the only individual track medalist in the meet.
The men's 4x400 was the final event for Lubbock Christian that had a medal finish, with the group racing toward a silver medal. Daniel Sianez, Reuel Campbell, Que Fields and Chris Moffett continued their dominant and historic run for Lubbock Christian, finishing with a record-breaking time of 3:10.46, which was only 0.16 away from the gold medalists.
For the Lady Chaps, they saw a multitude of record breakers, with the first being Abigail Jones in the women's weight throw. Jones had previously broken the record at their last meet, surpassing that mark with a new distance of 15.64m. With that distance, Jones ranked sixth overall in the event.
The women's distance medley relay was the next record-breaking event, recording a time of 12:44.17. Madelyn Merrell, Anne-Lie Waite, Sydney Jones and Olivia Weider etched their names into the record book and finished seventh overall in the first running of the event this season.
Jayda Rosales swapped one school record for another, as she surpassed her previous record in the triple jump with another this weekend. She had a distance of 10.81m in the event, as she finished eighth overall. Annabell Phillips was another Lady Chap who broke her prior school record, as the freshman notched her best time of the season in the 60-meter hurdles. She had a time of 9.33, as she continued her record-breaking streak this season.
Rounding out the new record holders, Reanna Argullin set the record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.46, breaking the previous record set in 2022. Lastly, Joy Egwu shattered her 60-meter dash record set in the previous meet. She clocked in with a time of 7.63 and finished just shy of the podium with a fourth-place finish in the event.
Lubbock Christian finished the meet fifth in the men's standings and ninth in the women's standings, as they now set their sights on the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Chaparrals and Lady Chaps racked up 15 qualifiers, across both group and individual events, for the meet that will take place at the Fall Creek Pavilion in Indianapolis, Ind. on March 12-15.
