CANYON, Texas (March 23, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University opened their 2025 outdoor season after competing in the West Texas Relays, hosted by West Texas A&M. The Chaparrals and Lady Chaps picked up where they left off after the indoor season, breaking multiple records and securing provisional marks at the first meet of the season.
Daniel Sianez became the first Lubbock Christian athlete to claim a provisional mark after clocking in a time of 21.07 in the 200-meter dash. The freshman continues to impress in his first season, as he had two medalist finishes in the indoor season and gained a seventh-place finish as a member of 4x400 relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
In addition to Sianez, Kevin Washington usurped his previous record and claimed a provisional mark in the long jump. He recorded a length of 7.54m, which broke the record of 7.51m set by Washington in 2023. Washington is fresh off a bronze medal finish in the event at the LSC Indoor Championships, seeking the same success in the outdoor season.
The final provisional mark of the day went to the men's 4x100 relay. Que Fields, Reuel Campbell, Chris Moffett and Nathaniel Luna had a time of 40.51 in their first appearance this season, with the group narrowly missing the current record of 40.11.
After setting the indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles, Annabell Phillips broke the previous record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.50. In her first season with Lubbock Christian, Phillips now stands alone as the record holder in both indoor and outdoor hurdles.
Following Phillips, Drew Grellhesl tied the current pole vault record with a height of 3.05m, which is held by Lauren Guthrie. Finally, Abigail Jones broke her prior record in the hammer throw, with a distance of 48.29m. This mark surpassed her previous record of 47.47, as she looks to impress following a selection to the LSC Preseason Athletes to Watch list.
Lubbock Christian will return to action this weekend, travelling to San Marcos and Austin to participate in the Bobcat Relays and Texas Relays, respectively. The meets will begin on March 27 and run through March 29.
