FORT SMITH, Ark. (March 24, 2025) – The Lady Chaps made their return to the course after a month hiatus, as Lubbock Christian University sits third at the UAFS Hardscrabble Invitational. The team closed day one with a score of 333 and 53-over-par, seven strokes behind current leader Henderson State.
Alexandra Escamilla ended her opening day as the top Lady Chap, with a score of 154 and 10-over-par. Escamilla's performance was bolstered by a strong second round that saw only four bogey or worse holes and three birdies. Furthermore, she had 21 pars across two rounds, which is tied for fourth most in the tournament field. As an individual, Escamilla is tied for fifth place.
Following Escamilla, Anaya Perales and Alejandra Escobar finished deadlocked with identical +14 158 scorecards. Perales was carried by five birdies on the day, which was second most on the LCU team and second most overall, as well. In addition, Escobar was bolstered by consistency with pars, recording 19 on the day, tied for fifth most in the tournament. The duo is currently in a tie for 16th place.
Rianna LaFuente was the next Lady Chap in the standings, as she scored 159 and 15-over-par. LaFuente led the charge in birdies for Lubbock Christian, sinking six on the day to lead not only the team but the entire field. She occupies 20th place with two other competitors.
Finally, Lily Griffin turned in a +26 170 to round out the Lubbock Christian standings. Griffin saw improvement between rounds, moving eight slots and removing six strokes from round one to two. Overall, she is tied for 63rd place.
After a two-tournament drought, Lubbock Christian finds themselves back in the top five of the team standings following day one. The Lady Chaps will seek their second tournament victory of the season and the first of the Spring schedule, when they return to Hardscrabble Country Club for their final day tomorrow.
