Lubbock Christian Opens at the WT Desert Invitational in Seventh Place

TUCSON, Ariz. (March 31, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University returned to Arizona for the second time this season for the WT Desert Invitational. The Lady Chaps wrapped up their opening day at the tournament by scoring 324 and 36-over-par, which has the team currently in seventh place. Lubbock Christian entered the tournament off a tied runner-up finish at the UAFS Hardscrabble Invitational and ranked 11th in the most recent NCAA DII Regional Rankings.

Anaya Perales remained on a hot streak, leading the Lady Chaps once again after day one. She had a score of 76 and four-over-par, which landed her in sole possession of fourth place as an individual. Notably, Perales tied for the lowest amount of birdies on the team in their opening round but still turned in the best Lady Chap score of the round. This was due in part to 12 pars across the first 18 holes, highlighting her strong consistency.

Alejandra Escobar followed narrowly behind Perales after a strong opening round. Escobar carded an opening round of +7 79, and this score has tied her for 12th amongst individual competitors. Senior Lily Griffin rounded out a trio of Lady Chaps inside the top 30 of the overall standings, as she scored a +9 81 in her first round. Her play was supported by an even-score on par 5 holes, with an average of 5.00. This score has her tied for the eighth best score on par 5 holes in the tournament.

Alexandra Escamilla finished fourth in the Lubbock Christian standings after the opening round. She closed the round with a score of 88 and 16-over-par, resulting in a tie for 76th place. Escamilla dominated the statistics, ranking in the top five of par 3 scoring and birdies across the tournament. In addition, she led the Lady Chaps with three birdies in the first round. The final Lady Chap was Rianna LaFuente, who scored a +20 92 in her first day of action. She currently sits tied for 90th place.

As a team, Lubbock Christian is tied for first in par 5 scoring, with a 5.20 average and combined score of +4. Furthermore, the Lady Chaps are tied for second in birdies, with a total of nine in day one. Lubbock Christian will aim for a strong day two and will seek to move up the standings in a narrow field. Play will resume tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. MST, which is 3:30 p.m. local time in Lubbock, as the Lady Chaps compete for their second tournament crown of the season.
