LUBBOCK, Texas (April 13, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University wraps up a five-game regular-season series against Sul Ross State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Maner Park, as the two teams square off in a Lone Star Conference West Division doubleheader that also marks the conclusion of a four-game homestand for the Lady Chaparrals.

LCU and SRSU Series Snapshot
  • LCU leads the all-time series 2-1.
  • The only prior meeting between the two squads in Lubbock was earlier this season (Feb.8), where LCU won 13-5 in a non-conference meeting. It was the first meeting ever between the two programs.
  • Sunday's doubleheader marks the first time these two teams have met in Lubbock for conference meetings, as the prior Lubbock meeting was a non-conference contest.
  • On Mar. 28, the two teams split a doubleheader in Alpine, Texas, which marked the first conference meetings between the two teams. LCU won the opener 6-3, but fell 8-5 in the second game.
  • Here are some notes on this season's series between the two teams:
    • Kendra Levesque continues to be an offensive force against Sul Ross State, batting .700 through the series with seven hits in 10 at-bats. She has four doubles, drives in four runs, and posts an eye-popping 1.100 slugging percentage while reaching base nearly 73% of the time.
    • The top of the order stays hot as Riley Flores and Kadin Vire each hit .556, combining with Levesque for 17 of the team's 30 total hits. Vire adds a team-high four runs scored and has a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen bases, while Flores has two RBI and a .636 on-base percentage.
    • LCU showcases its extra-base power with nine doubles, two triples, and two home runs across the three games. Six different players have at least one extra-base hit, including Baylea Myers, who has a homer, hits .444, and has driven in three runs.
    • Kawehi Ili continues to come through in big spots, hitting .333 with a home run and a team-best five RBI.
    • Teoni Lamb dominates in the circle, as she has allowed seven hits over 7.0 innings with no earned runs and five strikeouts, holding opposing hitters to a .250 average.
    • Kendall Ward provides a steady presence in relief, logging four shutout innings over two appearances. She has allowed only two hits, issues no walks, and has three strikeouts while continuing her scoreless stretch.
Season Tidbits
  • Lubbock Christian is 26-18 overall and sits tied for fourth in the Lone Star Conference West Division at 9-9, with a 17-17 mark in league play. The Lady Chaps are dominant at home (16-5) but have struggled on the road (6-12). LCU owns wins over several top-half teams, including Angelo State and Oklahoma Christian, and has posted double-digit runs in seven games. Battling for a berth to the Lone Star Conference Championship, LCU sits tied for seventh in the LSC overall standings.
  • Baylea Myers continues to be a steady presence in the Lubbock Christian lineup, ranking 15th in the Lone Star Conference and 111th nationally with a .397 batting average. She leads the Lady Chaps with 54 hits (tied for 10th in LSC), 89 total bases (13th in LSC), and is tied for 6th in the conference with three sacrifice flies. Myers has also driven in 34 runs and leads the team with seven home runs.
  • The Lady Chaps remain a dangerous power-hitting team, ranking 7th in the LSC and 46th nationally with 30 home runs. Myers leads the team with seven, followed by Kendra Levesque with six and Ashlinn Hamilton with four. Nine different players have left the yard this season.
  • LCU is one of the more productive offenses in the conference, ranking 4th in the LSC and 27th nationally with 238 RBI. The Lady Chaps average 5.4 RBI per game (4th in LSC, 45th nationally), have scored 255 total runs (5th in LSC, 38th nationally), and average 5.8 runs per game (5th in LSC, 54th nationally). Their .392 on-base percentage ranks 5th in the LSC and 68th nationally. LCU has drawn 151 walks—4th in the LSC and 23rd nationally—led by Riley Flores, who tops the LSC and ranks 14th nationally with 0.76 walks per game.
  • LCU ranks 2nd in the LSC and 16th nationally with 79 doubles, averaging 1.8 per game (3rd in LSC, 28th nationally). Kendra Levesque leads the LSC and ranks 7th nationally with 18 doubles, while Kristen Boyd is 4th in the LSC with 15.

Kendall Ward continues to be one of the top closers in the country, leading the LSC and ranking 4th nationally with five saves. Teoni Lamb leads the staff in innings pitched (93.1), ranks 16th in the LSC in that category, and is tied for 17th in complete games (8). Lamb averages 6.3 strikeouts per seven innings (12th in LSC).
  • The Lady Chaps have shown excellent situational hitting, ranking tied for second in the LSC and 15th nationally with 18 sacrifice flies. Riley Flores ranks tied for 2nd in the LSC with four, and Baylea Myers is tied for 7th with three.
  • Defensively, LCU has turned 12 double plays, ranking 9th in the LSC and 98th nationally. Their .967 fielding percentage is 6th in the LSC and 55th nationally. Flores continues to shine in the field, ranking 8th in the LSC with 2.07 assists per game and 6th overall with 85 total assists.

  • LCU continues to strike early and surge late, outscoring opponents 47–17 in the first inning and 57–20 in the sixth. The Lady Chaps are 19–7 when scoring first, including a 15–3 mark when pushing across a run in the opening frame.

  • Myers and Boyd are tied for the team lead with 10 multi-RBI games apiece. Levesque has posted eight, while Kawehi Ili follows with seven. Riley Flores and Kadin Vire have each delivered five.
Coach Talk
  • LCU head coach Daren Hays is in his 15th season at the helm of the Lady Chaps.
  • Hays is LCU's winningest softball head coach, entering Friday with a softball record of 578-214.
  • Along with surpassing 575 coaching wins in softball, Hays had surpassed 300 wins as a collegiate baseball head coach. He spent eight seasons as the LCU baseball head coach and compiled a 356-163 record. Combine the two sports and Hays has coached in 1,263 total games at LCU. 
 
Looking at SRSU
  • Sul Ross State is currently 10-33 overall and 5-13 in Lone Star Conference play, sitting at the bottom of the LSC West Division standings. The Lobos have a .233 winning percentage overall and a .278 mark in division play.
  • The Lobos have lost four straight and are just 1-9 over their last 10 games. They are 6-12 at home and 1-16 in conference road games.
  • Head coach Troy Canaba will resign following the 2025 season to pursue a new opportunity. During his tenure, he has led the Lobos to 140 wins, four winning seasons, and overseen significant facility improvements. Canaba also previously coached volleyball, earning multiple awards and honors.
  • Tori Owens, a former LCU player, is hitting .289 with a .716 OPS in 33 games. She leads the team with 17 RBI, adding eight doubles, a home run, and four stolen bases.
  • Vivian Jimenez has played in 43 games and leads the team with nine stolen bases. She holds a .248 average, .627 OPS, and is tied for second on the team with 26 hits.
  • Ciera Avila is batting .256 while ranking second on the team with 30 hits and 15 RBI. She also has four extra-base hits and seven stolen bases.
  • Adriana Hernandez leads the team in hits (30) and has driven in 12 runs, batting .278 in 43 games.
