Levesque Earns First Team, Golden Glove; Ward Named to All-Freshman Team as LCU Places Five on All-Conference Squads

CANYON, Texas (April 30, 2025) – Five Lubbock Christian University softball players received All-Conference recognition at the Lone Star Conference awards banquet preceding this week's LSC Championship tournament, with graduate first baseman Kendra Levesque leading the way as a First Team selection and Golden Glove award winner.

Levesque, a graduate student from Albuquerque, N.M., earned her first career All-Conference accolades after a standout regular season in which she led LCU with a .398 batting average, 23 doubles and 53 RBI. Her 23 doubles tied for the most in NCAA Division II this season, while her .737 slugging percentage ranked seventh in the conference. She is the only player in the LSC to receive multiple Hitter of the Week accolades this season, and she did it in consecutive weeks while having 17 consecutive plate appearances reaching base safely. The honors also led to NFCA National Player of the Week honors, becoming the fourth Lady Chaps member to obtain the accolade (all-time). Her Golden Glove honor marks the second consecutive season an LCU representative has made the squad, as Maxine Valdez received Golden Glove Team honors last season.

Graduate second baseman Kristen Boyd (Carbon, Alberta) and senior third baseman Baylea Myers (Keller, Texas) both received Second Team All-Conference honors. Boyd is hitting .352 with 20 doubles (ranks fourth nationally in Division II and second in LSC) and 43 RBI in her first season with the Lady Chaps. The New Mexico State transfer also ranks 12th in the conference with 95 assists while maintaining a .431 on-base percentage. Myers, the lone returner among LCU's honorees, is hitting .383 with 14 doubles, eight home runs and 42 RBI. Her 67 hits rank 10th in the conference, and she stands 16th nationally with 44 runs scored while posting an impressive .611 slugging percentage.

Third Team All-Conference recognition went to junior Yaya Kaaialii (Las Vegas, Nev.) and freshman Kendall Ward (Round Rock, Texas). Kaaialii is hitting .387 with 10 doubles in 34 games, compiling an outstanding .500 on-base percentage that would rank among the nation's leaders if she met the minimum game requirement.

Ward has been a revelation in her collegiate debut season, posting a 6-1 record with five saves and a 2.07 ERA (five wins in relief). Her five saves rank 10th nationally in Division II and leads the Lone Star Conference. The freshman sensation has allowed just two walks against 23 strikeouts in 44 innings while holding opponents to a .244 batting average. Ward also earned a spot on the LSC All-Freshman Team, marking the first LCU freshman represented on the list since Riley Flores received the honor in 2023.

The five All-Conference selections continue a tradition of success for the program, which has placed at least five players on All-Conference teams each year since joining the LSC in 2020, with the exception of that COVID-shortened season when no awards were presented.

The fifth-seeded Lady Chaps (35-19) enter the LSC Championship on a hot streak, having won 11 of their last 12 games. They face fourth-seeded No.20 Oklahoma Christian in the tournament opener Thursday at 5 p.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, hosted by top-seeded West Texas A&M.

LCU is currently ranked eighth in the NCAA South Central Region and seeking to advance beyond the semifinal round for the first time in program history. The Lady Chaps notched their first-ever LSC postseason victory last season with a 1-0 shutout over No. 21 Angelo State.
