GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 4, 2025) – Lubbock Christian University kicked off their second tournament of the week at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. The Lady Chaps found themselves in a tie for third place after the opening round of play, with a +3 291 combined team score.
Once again, Anaya Perales led the Lady Chaps after day one, putting together a score of 69 and three-under-par. Her strong play slotted her into a tie for fourth place following the first round. Perales showed exceptional scoring ability, ranking in the top three of birdies and top five of pars across the tournament field.
Alejandra Escobar had an even-par 72 performance that resulted in a tie for ninth place. Her day was highlighted by a 3.90 scoring average on par 4 holes and 14 pars, which was tied for the most of any Lubbock Christian competitor. Finishing narrowly behind Escobar, Lily Griffin carded a +2 78 in the first 18 holes. Griffin led the entire tournament in par 5 scoring, with an average of 4.00 and a score of -4. As a result of her strong play, she ended her day tied for 31st place.
Alexandra Escamilla finished with a score of 76 and four-over-par in route to a tie for 51st place. Notably, Escamilla was tied for the team lead in pars, with 14 on her opening day. Rianna LaFuente rounded out the Lubbock Christian standings after she turned in a score of 78 and six-over-par. In addition, LaFuente tied for the Lady Chap lead in par 3 scoring, as she had an average of 3.00 and an even-par score.
Lubbock Christian will look to build upon a solid day one and secure their second team medalist finish of the season when play resumes Saturday from the Palm Valley Golf Club. Furthermore, the Lady Chaps are seeking to wrap up an NCAA DII Regional Championships berth for the first time in program history, with a strong finish at the tournament benefiting their regional ranking.
