Five LCU Women’s Tennis Players Earn All-Conference Awards Before LSC Tournament Opener

ARLINGTON, Texas (May 1, 2025) — Five members of the Lubbock Christian University women's tennis team were recognized Wednesday evening as the Lone Star Conference announced its annual awards at the LSC Tennis Championships banquet held at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The Lady Chaps, who enter the LSC tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 17-6 overall record and a 7-3 mark in conference play, were highlighted by junior Anastasiia Opolska earning Second Team honors at No. 1 singles. Four additional players received honorable mention accolades, including a trio of repeat honorees and one freshman.
Opolska, a junior from Stebnyk, Ukraine, was named to the Second Team in singles after going 19-8 overall, including 15-7 in dual matches and 7-3 in conference play. She went 12-7 at the No. 1 singles position and led the team with three wins against nationally ranked opponents. Opolska, who is nationally ranked No.30 by the ITA in singles, also went 15-11 in doubles play this season, primarily competing at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Andrea De Bernardo (Caracas, Venezuela) earned honorable mention recognition in both singles and doubles. It is her second career All-LSC nod after being named to the Second Team in singles in 2024. De Bernardo posted an 18-10 singles record this season, going 14-8 in dual matches and 11-7 at the No. 2 singles spot. She led the team in doubles victories (21-12 overall), teaming with junior Axelle Jacquemin (Sint-Truiden, Belgium) for a 19-11 record. The pair, who are nationally ranked No.20 in doubles, played exclusively at the No. 1 position, going 12-7 in duals and 5-3 in LSC play. Their two wins against nationally ranked duos were the only such victories for LCU this season.

Jacquemin, who received honorable mention in doubles for the third straight year, becomes the first three-time All-Conference honoree in LCU program history. All 19 of her doubles wins came while paired with De Bernardo. She also appeared in singles competition, finishing the regular season 5-10.

Freshman AnaMaria Zoric (Zubrovnik, Croatia) was honored in singles after an impressive debut campaign. She is 19-4 overall and an outstanding 18-2 in dual matches, including a 7-1 record in conference play. Zoric primarily competed at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles spots, going 9-1 and 7-1, respectively. In doubles, she has contributed a 16-10 record overall, including 14-7 in dual matches and 12-5 at No. 2 doubles.

Sophomore Oshini Herath was named to the LSC Sportsmanship Team, which honors players for exemplary sportsmanship, character, and competitive spirit. Herath is 13-3 overall in singles play, including a 10-1 mark in dual matches and 5-1 in conference action. She is 6-1 at No. 6 singles and also competes in doubles, where she is 6-11 in dual play at the No. 3 spot.

LCU returns to action Thursday at noon as the No. 3-seeded Lady Chaps open the Lone Star Conference Championships in Arlington against sixth-seeded Dallas Baptist. LCU is currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA Division II South Central Region.
