Lady Chaps Battle The Elements and Tight Tournament Field in Day One

AMARILLO, Texas (May 5, 2025) -- Lubbock Christian University took part in their first NCAA West Regional Championships Monday, ending round one tied for 11th. The Lady Chaps had their historic opening round delayed following poor weather conditions in the Texas Panhandle. Once they were able to tee off, they recorded a combined team score of 324 and 36-over-par.

Alexandra Escamilla led the Lady Chaps in her second consecutive regional appearance, becoming the first golfer in team history to achieve the feat. Escamilla carded an opening round score of 78 and 6-over-par. She was a force on par 4 and 5 holes, tying for the ninth- and second-best scoring averages, respectively. Furthermore, she was tied for the tournament lead in birdies with four in the opening round. Escamilla currently occupies 13 th place with nine other competitors.

Following Escamilla in the standings was Alejandra Escobar, who turned in a +9 81 opening round. Escobar modelled consistency for Lubbock Christian, as she led the team in pars with nine across the first 18 holes. She closed her first regional appearance tied for 47th.

Fifth year senior Lily Griffin made her long-awaited regional debut with a score of 82 and 10-over-par. Griffin was particularly successful on par 5 holes, with an average of 4.67 and score of –1. At the end of round one, she was tied for 59th place.

Anaya Perales and Rianna LaFuente rounded out the Lubbock Christian standings on Monday. Perales scored a +11 83 in her first regional action. She tied for the second most birdies in round one, as she sank two on the day. Perales is tied for 66th after her first round. LaFuente had an opening round scorecard of 89 and 17-over-par. She was the best Lady Chap in par 3 scoring, as she had an average of 3.25 and score of +1. LaFuente ended her day deadlocked in 89th.

Lubbock Christian will return to Tascosa Golf Club for round two Tuesday morning, as they look to rebound and move up the tightly contested leaderboard. They are slated to begin play at 8:45, but forecasts of poor weather loom large again on day two.
