Chambliss Goal Earns LCU Draw in San Angelo

Wright Makes Six Second-Half Saves to Secure Road Point

SAN ANGELO, Texas (September 20, 2025) — Lubbock Christian University and Angelo State University played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the LeGrand Soccer Complex earning LCU a tough road point in the Lone Star Conference standings.

Angelo State struck first with a goal in the opening half, but the Chaparrals responded with a second-half equalizer. Lubbock Christian's goalkeeper made eight saves, including six in the second half, to help preserve the tie.

The first half began with Angelo State taking an early lead as Sanai Stewart scored in the 9th minute, assisted by Abby James. The Lady Chap offense, led by Kali Guy and Bonnie Miller, managed several attempts on goal, but Melyna Martinez's saves kept the visitors scoreless.

A key moment occurred just before the break, when Ella Spiller was fouled just inside the 18-yard box. Her ensuing penalty kick was saved, preserving Angelo State's 1-0 advantage at the end of the first half.

The second half began with Lubbock Christian applying early pressure as Guy's shot in the 45th minute was saved, signaling the team's attacking intent. The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when Mia Chambliss scored, assisted by Duschka Diaz, leveling the score at 1-1.

Emma Wright's impressive performance in goal was pivotal, as she made multiple crucial saves, including a key stop against Abby James in the 86th minute, ensuring the match ended in a tense 1-1 draw.

GAME NOTES:
- Wright matched her career high with eight saves in the draw. She also had eight saves on Sept. 12, 2024, against Colorado School of Mines.
- After playing 263 minutes as a freshman without a goal, Chambliss has already netted three goals in the 2025 season.
- Spiller's saved PK drops the Lady Chaps to 0-for-2 in penalty opportunities so far this season.
- This is just the second time in nine meetings between the two schools that Angelo State has not come away victorious. The Lady Chaps have earned one other tie in the all-time series, which began in 2019, earning a 0-0 draw that season in the LSC Tournament.
- Diaz assisted the Chambliss goal for her first helper of the season. She is the eighth different player for the Lady Chaps to record an assist in 2025.
