LCU Falls to MSU

Second-Half Goals from Mustangs Beat Lady Chaps

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (September 24, 2025) — Midwestern State defeated Lubbock Christian 2-0 on Wednesday at Stang Park.

The Mustangs broke a deadlock in the second half with two goals. LCU's goalkeeper recorded six saves, with five in the second half, but could not prevent the home team from securing the victory.

Lubbock Christian holds a 3-3-1 overall record and is 1-1-1 in conference play following the loss. Midwestern State improved to 2-1-3 overall and maintains a 2-0-1 record in conference play.

The first half began with LCU establishing their presence early, as Lexi De La Cruz managed to get a shot off in the 8th minute. Despite a few offside calls against the Lady Chaps, they maintained pressure with Mia Chambliss and Claire Jacobson also testing Midwestern State's defense with shots.

Emma Wright, demonstrating solid goalkeeping, kept Midwestern State at bay by making a crucial save in the 43rd minute against Jasmine Montgomery's attempt. It was the first shot on goal by either team in the game, but the half concluded with the scoreboard at 0-0, setting the stage for a competitive second half.

The second half began with the Lady Chaps seeking opportunities to shift momentum. Despite their efforts, Midwestern State opened the scoring with Bella Rose finding the back of the net in the 51st minute, putting the home team ahead. The Chaparrals' defense faced continued pressure but remained resilient, with goalkeeper Wright making several critical saves, notably against shots from Morgan Countryman and Ashlynn Knight.

As the half advanced, LCU aimed to respond with Ella Spiller and Logan Holloway attempting to equalize, yet their shots went off target. Midwestern State extended their lead in the 83rd minute with a goal from Lillia Besedin.

Despite the setback, Wright continued to perform valiantly in goal, making another save in the closing minutes. The half concluded with Midwestern State leading 2-0.

Emma Wright recorded six saves during the match, with five of those coming in the second half. Five different LCU players recorded a shot in the loss.

GAME NOTES:
- Midwestern State's defense was stout, holding the Lady Chaps without a shot on goal. It is the first time they have been held without a shot on goal for an entire game since Oct. 9, 2021, against Texas A&M-Commerce.
- Casey Storer was the only Lady Chap to spend the entire game on the field, increasing her already team-leading minutes played total to 606.
- LCU was also held without a corner kick for the first time this season. The last time they were held without a corner kick was Oct. 21, 2021, also against Midwestern State.
