Spiller Scores Twice in Draw With UTT

LCU Out-Shoots Patriots 19-6

LUBBOCK, Texas (Sept. 27, 2025) — Lubbock Christian and UT Tyler played to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

The Lady Chaps took an early lead with two goals in the first half. UT Tyler equalized with a goal in each half, including a crucial second-half PK that secured the draw. The Chaps dominated in shots, totaling 19 to UT Tyler's six, but both teams capitalized on their chances to end the game in a stalemate.

Lubbock Christian now holds an overall record of 3-3-2 and a conference record of 1-1-2 after the match. UT Tyler improved to 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

UT Tyler struck first when Natalie Jones scored in the 4th minute with an assist from Ella Anderson.

The Lady Chaps responded with sustained pressure, and in the 30th minute, Ella Spiller converted a penalty kick to level the score at 1-1. The momentum shifted definitively when Spiller scored again in the 37th minute, assisted by Riley Espinoza, giving the Chaps a 2-1 lead. Espinoza nearly scored the go-ahead goal herself, taking a shot that clipped the crossbar, and Spiller was in position to bury the rebound.

The second half began with the Chaparrals looking to capitalize on their opportunities. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Sydney Smith that was saved by UT Tyler's Emily Clark, the home team struggled to find the back of the net and increase their lead.

Ella Anderson of UT Tyler converted a penalty kick at the 59th minute, giving the visitors a 1-0 edge in the half.

The Chaparrals continued to press forward, with Spiller and Journey Curs testing the opposing goalkeeper, but were unable to alter the scoreline. The defense held strong as Emma Wright made crucial saves, keeping the Chaparrals in the contest. The half concluded with the scoreboard reading 2-2, as the teams remained deadlocked at the final whistle.

Spiller registered eight shots, three of which were on goal. Emma Wright made two saves while facing six shots, allowing two goals in the process. Sydney Smith took two shots, with one of them being on goal.

GAME NOTES:
- Spiller notched her second multi-goal game of the season in the draw. She also scored twice against CSU-Pueblo.
- The Coppell, Texas native has already surpassed her goal total from her freshman season, when she found the back of the net five times.
- Saturday marked the third-straight meeting between the Lady Chaps and Patriots without a UTT win. Their only win in the all-time series came in 2022.
- Espinoza notched another assist on Spiller's second goal, her fourth of the season. That ties her for first in the LSC.
- The Chaparrals out-shot UT Tyler 19-6, marking the first time this season they have not won when out-shooting their opponent (2-0-1).
