LUBBOCK, Texas (January 15, 2026) – No. 7 West Texas A&M used a balanced scoring attack and a decisive second-half surge to snap No. 11 Lubbock Christian University's 22-game home winning streak, defeating the Lady Chaps 70–59 Thursday night at the Rip Griffin Center in a Lone Star Conference "Rivalry on the Range" showdown.
Lubbock Christian (14–3, 6–2 LSC) set the tone early, opening the game a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from three-point range in the first quarter to build a 25–17 advantage. The Lady Chaps maintained control into halftime, carrying a 38–30 lead after shooting 75 percent in the opening frame and leading for nearly 24 minutes overall.
West Texas A&M (16–1, 8–0 LSC), which extended its winning streak to 16 games, flipped the game after the break. The Lady Buffs outscored LCU 23–10 in the third quarter, using multiple scoring runs and strong work on the glass to erase the deficit and take a 53–48 lead into the fourth. WTAMU finished the night with a 20–12 rebounding edge in the second half and a 15–4 advantage in second-chance points.
The visitors also capitalized on key areas late, outscoring LCU 15–3 from beyond the arc and 15–6 at the free-throw line after halftime. A 12–0 run midway through the fourth quarter pushed the margin to double figures and sealed the outcome.
Kennedy Chappell paced Lubbock Christian with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists, extending her streak of double-figure scoring performances to 12 straight games.
Martie McCoy added 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds, marking her ninth double-figure outing of the season, while freshman
Meg Meekins chipped in 13 points for her 12th double-digit game of the year.
Tia Johnson rounded out the scoring leaders with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
West Texas A&M was led by a balanced effort, placing five players in double figures. Henley West scored a team-high 15 points, while Taylor Haggan and Claire Graham each added 12. Karley Motschenbacher posted nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds to anchor the Lady Buffs inside, and Kyla Kane contributed 10 points. WTAMU shot 39.3 percent from the field and went 9-of-28 from three-point range in the win.
The loss snapped LCU's 22-game home winning streak and marked just the second home defeat to West Texas A&M in program history.
How It Happened
Offense was on display to open the game, as LCU and WT combined to make their first eight field goal attempts (each opened 4-of-4). The first quarter opened with Taylor Haggan of WTAMU scoring a jumper just 13 seconds into the game. The Chaps responded with a layup from
Meg Meekins, assisted by
Tia Johnson, at 9:17. WT held a brief lead after Claire Graham hit two consecutive three-pointers, the first at 8:20. However, the Lady Chaps opened the game 6-of-6 from the field, including a bucket from Meekins to cap a 9-0 run for a 15-10 lead halfway through the frame. The continued to surge, grabbing two three-pointers from
Kyndle Cunningham and adding a final three-pointer from
Martie McCoy with 22 seconds remaining for an eventual quarter-leading 25-17 advantage, shooting an impressive 75% from the field (9/12). Meekins, Chappell and Cunningham each had six points in the quarter.
The second quarter was marked by balanced scoring from both teams, ending in a 13-13 draw for the quarter. The Lady Chaps'
Tia Johnson contributed significantly with a layup at 9:35 and a jumper at 6:25. WTAMU's Kyla Kane hit a three-pointer at 5:02, assisted by Henley West, to keep the visitors close. McCoy was effective for the home team, making a layup and completing a three-point play with a free throw at 3:09, extending the Lady Chaps' lead. The quarter concluded with
Taylor Allen adding a layup for Lubbock Christian, while Randi Harding of WT closed the scoring with a three-pointer, making it 38-30 in favor of the hosts. McCoy led LCU in the quarter with five points and co-led (with
Tia Johnson) in scoring in the half with eight points.
LCU faced a challenging third quarter against WTAMU, as the visitors outscored them 23-10. Claire Graham initiated WT's scoring with a three-pointer at 23 seconds into the half, assisted by Kyla Kane. Despite McCoy's layup at moments later to keep the Chaps ahead, WT gradually overtook the lead. Henley West's late-quarter contributions, including a three-pointer at 1:37 and a subsequent jumper and free throw at 1:06, proved decisive (she had eight points in the quarter). WT had a 12-2 run and closed the quarter on an additional 8-2 run to finish the quarter with a 53-48 advantage. LCU opened the quarter 3-of-4 from the field, but then closed out the remaining 17 minutes of the game 4-of-19 from the field (21.1%).
The Chaps struggled to maintain momentum in the fourth quarter against WT, ultimately falling short with a quarter score of 17-11.
Kennedy Chappell's layup and free throw at 8:57 brought the Chaparrals within four points, but WTAMU's Taylor Haggan quickly responded with a layup to extend the lead. Claire Graham added to the visitor's advantage with a three-pointer at 3:39, which was part of a 12-0 WT run. Despite Meekins hitting a three-pointer in the final seconds (only three-pointer of the half for LCU), the Lady Chaps could not close the gap, finishing the game behind. With a 5-1 advantage in three-pointers by WT in the second half (LCU opened the game 4-of-4 in the first quarter from three-point range, but was 1-of-11 for the remaining three quarter, with Meekins' three-pointer in the fourth quarter ending a sequence of 10 straight three-point misses), WT out-scored LCU 15-3 in the half from three-point range. Additionally, they out-scored LCU 15-6 in the second half from the free-throw line. LCU was out-rebounded 20-12 in the second half (10 were by Motschenbacher), which also led to a 10-2 scoring advantage in second-chance scoring for WT, who out-scored LCU 15-4 in the game in the category. Chappell (8) and Meekins (7) combined for 15 of LCU's 21 points in the second half.

Martie McCoy led the Lady Chaps with seven rebounds while finishing with 12 points on the night, including a 1-of-2 effort from three-point range, and adding an assist and a steal in the contest. The double-figure scoring outing marked McCoy's ninth such performance of the season and the 12th of her LCU career.
» For a third consecutive game, LCU was out-scored in points-off-turnovers. At Midwestern State, in their previous game, LCU outscored LCU 21–8 in points off turnovers, as the Lady Chaps matched a season high with 19 turnovers. Thursday against WT, LCU lost the turnover battle 12-7, leading to being out-scored by WT 19-9 in points-off-turnovers.

th game of double figures in points on the season and she has connected on at least one three-pointer in 16 of the 17 games this season.
» LCU led 25-17 at the close of the first quarter and 38-30 at the end of the first half. They fell to 8-1 when leading at the half and 7-1 when leading heading into the second quarter, falling for the first time this season when leading in each of the categories. LCU, who led for 23:56 of the game (WT led for 15:26), led as much as 10 points (with 9:35 left in the second quarter), marking their biggest lead to eventually lose since falling to Texas A&M International on Dec. 10, 2023 in a game LCU dropped a 15-point lead.

th double-figure scoring game of her LCU career, as she has double figures in points in 16 of 17 games this season and in her last 12 consecutive games.

Tia Johnson was 5-of-7 from the field and finished with 10 points to hit double figures in points in consecutive games for the first time in her career. She had 10-or-more points in three games this season and five in her career.
» The Lady Chaps had their 22-game home win streak snapped, as they entered the game with the third-longest active home win streak in Division II. LCU, who has played the fewest home games this season in the LSC, is 4-1 at home on the season. It was their first home loss since falling 76-64 to Texas Woman's on Jan. 27, 2024. LCU, facing a nationally ranked foe for the first time this season, has now dropped five straight home games when facing a nationally ranked team at home.
» LCU fell at home to West Texas A&M for just the second time all-time, as LCU is now 7-2 at home against the Lady Buffs all-time. Overall, LCU has their record in the all-time series against WT drop to 14-7, as the loss snapped a six-game win streak against WT in the all-time series.
