Late Leads Slip Away As Lady Chaps Fall To Comets

Blair Matches Career High With 18 Kills As LCU Sets Season Best With 57 In Four-Set Loss To UT Dallas

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 10, 2026) – Despite a season high in kills, Lubbock Christian University dropped a four-set Lone Star Conference match Saturday, falling to UT Dallas 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 27-25, 26-24) inside Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaparrals fell to 8-11 overall and 4-5 in LSC play, while UT Dallas improved to 9-8 and 5-3.

LCU produced a season-high 57 kills, led by Camryn Blair's season-high 18, which matched her career high. Blair recorded her ninth double-figure kill performance of the season, while Hope Gonsioroski added 11 kills and freshman Shaylee Stevens contributed a career-high eight.

Camdyn Sears directed the offense with a season-high 49 assists and added nine digs. Leigh Jespersen led LCU defensively with 14 digs, matching her season high.

After splitting the opening two sets, LCU held a 24-22 advantage in the third before UT Dallas rallied to take five of the final six points. The Lady Chaps again led late in the fourth, moving ahead 24-23 on a Kayson Reeves kill, but the Comets answered with three straight points to close the match.

UT Dallas finished with 64 kills, the most by an LCU opponent this season. Jane Burkhardt led the Comets with 21 kills and 12 digs for a double-double, while Scarlette Young added 17 kills and 28 assists. Abby Gentner also recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 14 digs.

Game Notes
» LCU had a season high in kills with 57, while UT Dallas' kill total of 64 was the highest by an LCU opponent this season and the highest in a four-set match by an LCU opponent since UT Tyler had 74 on Sept. 30, 2023. Of LCU's 57 kills, they received a season-high 18 from Camryn Blair, which matches a career high (Sept. 13, 2025 vs. Colorado State Pueblo) and is the highest mark by a Lady Chaps member this season. Blair's 18 kills marks her ninth double-figure kill performance this season (15th of her LCU career).

» Camdyn Sears registered a season-high total in assists with 49, marking her third match this season with at least 40 assists.

» Freshman Hope Gonsioroski matched a season/career high in kills with 11, which provides her with three double-figure performances in kills and all three have come over a four-game span.

» Freshman Shaylee Stevens, who entered the match with eight kills on the season, produced eight kills Saturday in three sets played for a season/career high total.

» Leigh Jespersen led LCU with 14 digs, which matches her season-high mark.

» LCU drops to 2-3 in matches decided in four sets.

» The Lady Chaps fall to under .500 at home for the first time this season, as their third consecutive home loss has them with a 2-3 home record on the season.

» UT Dallas was making their first-ever trip to Lubbock, as their win was the first over the Lady Chaps and places the all-time series split at 1-1 (LCU won last season at UTD).
