LUBBOCK, Texas (February 19, 2026) — No. 23 Lubbock Christian erased an early double-digit deficit and briefly reclaimed the lead in the second half, but Angelo State extended its winning streak to nine games with a 65-58 Lone Star Conference victory Thursday night inside Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
The Lady Chaps (20-6, 12-5 LSC) trailed by as many as 11 in the first half and opened the game shooting 1-of-7 from the field. Angelo State (14-9, 12-5) built a 13-3 advantage midway through the first quarter before LCU closed the period on an 8-2 run to pull within 15-11.
LCU continued to chip away and closed the first half on a 7-2 run, then carried that momentum into the third quarter. A 16-4 surge spanning the halves gave the Lady Chaps a 36-35 lead on
Taylor Allen's three-pointer with 4:07 remaining in the third — their first lead since early in the second quarter. The Rambelles responded with a 6-0 run to take a 43-39 edge into the final period.
Angelo State pushed the margin to nine early in the fourth, but LCU battled back.
Kennedy Chappell's three-pointer cut the deficit to 52-50 with 5:56 left. The Lady Chaps would get no closer. Angelo State did not make a field goal over the final 4:42 but sealed the win at the free-throw line, scoring its final eight points from the stripe and finishing 15-of-18 overall.
Freshman
Meg Meekins led LCU with 15 points, including 10 in the second half, while adding six rebounds and two steals. The performance marked her 18th double-figure scoring game of the season and her fourth consecutive road game leading the Lady Chaps in scoring. Chappell added 12 points, nine rebounds and three assists, and Allen contributed 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Majik Esquivel paced Angelo State with 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting. Landry Morrow added 16 points, and Taylor Grona finished with 12 points and six rebounds. The Rambelles shot 39.7 percent from the field and 83.3 percent at the line while improving to 12-5 in conference play.
LCU shot 37.3 percent and committed 16 turnovers. The loss drops the Lady Chaps to 8-5 on the road this season, while Angelo State strengthened its position in the Lone Star Conference standings with its ninth straight victory.
How It Happened
The game commenced with ASU taking an early 5-0 lead through Landry Morrow's two free throws and a three-pointer from Majik Esquivel two minutes into the game. The Lady Chaps, opening the game 1-of-7 from the field, responded with
Meg Meekins hitting a three-pointer for their only field goal of the game's opening seven minutes. ASU capitalized on turnovers and fast breaks, including a three-point play from Taylor Grona at 4:55, pulling ahead 13-3. The Lady Chaps'
Taylor Allen contributed a three-pointer to highlight an 8-2 run to close the quarter with LCU trailing 15-11. Meekins led LCU with five points in the quarter and had two of LCU's three field goals, as they shot just 25% (3/12) from the field.
In a tightly contested second quarter, ASU maintained a narrow lead over the Lady Chaps, outscoring the visitors 18-16.
Kennedy Chappell contributed significantly for the Lady Chaps with a layup at 8:57 and an assist on
Kimber Mathews' three-pointer at 7:31, which capped a 7-2 run to open the second quarter and gave LCU an 18-17 lead. ASU responded with a 14-2 run and took a 31-20 lead. LCU did grab momentum heading into the locker room, as
Raegan Lee had LCU's final five points of the half, as LCU closed the half on a 7-2 run over the final two minutes of the half to trail 33-27.
Lubbock Christian narrowed the gap in the third quarter against ASU, outscoring them 12-10.
Tia Johnson contributed significantly for the Lady Chaps, scoring a layup at 7:45 and following up with a defensive rebound. With 4:07 left in the quarter

In a tightly contested fourth quarter, the Rambelles managed to secure a 65-58 victory over the Chaparrals. Esquivel played a crucial role, scoring a jumper and adding a three-pointer within the first three minutes, extending ASU's lead to 50-41. The Chaps responded with a series of baskets, including a three-pointer from Chappell at 5:56, narrowing the gap to 52-50. Despite the efforts of Meekins (8) and Chappell (7), who combined for 15 points in the quarter, LCU would not get any closer. The Rambelles, who did not have a field goal in the final 4:42, scored the game's final six points from the free-throw line (they scored their last eight points from the line).
