SAN ANGELO, Texas (September 11, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University opened play at the Lone Star Conference Challenge Friday with a 3-0 non-conference loss to "Rivalry on the Range" rival West Texas A&M (25-19, 25-23, 25-22) inside Junell Center.
The Lady Chaparrals fell to 4-5, while West Texas A&M improved to 5-6.
LCU struggled offensively, finishing with 25 kills and a .017 attack percentage, but kept the match competitive behind its defensive play. The Lady Chaps recorded 54 digs, their second-highest total in a three-set match this season, while holding the Lady Buffs to a .148 hitting percentage.
Camdyn Sears registered her third double-double of the season and the 26th of her LCU career, finishing with 20 assists and a season-high 16 digs.
Leigh Jespersen added eight kills and a season-high 14 digs for her first double-figure dig performance as a Lady Chap.
Tatum Fleitman finished with six kills on a .250 hitting percentage and recorded two solo blocks, while
Kayson Reeves added four kills and two blocks.
LCU led 22-22 late in the second set before West Texas A&M took three of the final four points. The Lady Chaps also rallied from a 15-12 deficit in the third, using a 5-0 run to take a 17-15 lead before the Lady Buffs closed the match by winning five of the final seven points.
West Texas A&M finished with 11 total blocks, the most by an LCU opponent this season.
