ALPINE, Texas (September 18, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University opened Lone Star Conference play Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Sul Ross State at Gallegos Center, marking the Lady Chaparrals' first road win of the season and their first appearance in Alpine since 1995.
LCU took the conference opener by set scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17 to improve to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference play. The Lady Chaps entered the match 0-2 in their previous two LSC road openers since 2019, when they won at Eastern New Mexico.
The victory also continued LCU's dominance in the all-time series against Sul Ross State. The Lady Chaps entered Friday's match with a 40-11 advantage in the series and had won 20 consecutive meetings against the Lobos. LCU also swept Sul Ross State in the teams' previous meeting this season, taking a 3-0 decision Aug. 28 in Gunnison, Colo.
Friday marked just the second time LCU has opened conference play against Sul Ross State and the first time the Lady Chaps have played an LSC opener in Alpine.
The victory moves LCU to 26-6 all-time in conference openers and 5-3 in Lone Star Conference openers.
