SILVER CITY, N.M. (September 19, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University aims to have a flawless opening week of Lone Star Conference play, as they head to Drag's Court Saturday to face Western New Mexico for a 1 p.m. (CT) conference match to conclude their opening week of conference action.

LADY CHAP NOTES
- LCU enters Saturday's matchup at Western New Mexico with a 5-6 overall record and a 1-0 mark in Lone Star Conference play after opening the league schedule with a 3-0 victory over Sul Ross State Thursday in Alpine, Texas. The Lady Chaps won by set scores of 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17, snapping a three-match losing streak and earning their first true road victory of the season. Saturday's match at Drag's Court completes a two-match road swing to open conference play.
 
- Thursday's victory improved LCU to 26-6 all-time in conference openers and 5-3 in Lone Star Conference openers. It was also the Lady Chaps' first victory when opening LSC play on the road since defeating Eastern New Mexico in 2019. LCU had dropped its previous two road conference openers before Thursday. The Lady Chaps went 15-2 in LSC play last season after consecutive 9-7 conference campaigns in 2023 and 2024.
 
- LCU's trip through West Texas and New Mexico carries a historical element. Thursday marked the Lady Chaps' first match in Alpine since 1995, while Saturday sends LCU to Silver City to face Western New Mexico at Drag's Court. LCU entered the weekend 0-3 in true road matches this season before defeating Sul Ross State, with those previous road contests coming at Western Colorado, No. 13 Barry and No. 9 Angelo State.
 
- The Lady Chaps entered conference play after one of the more demanding stretches on their schedule, facing four nationally ranked opponents over a six-match span. LCU faced No. 1 St. Cloud State, No. 21 Lynn, No. 13 Barry and No. 9 Angelo State during that stretch. Thursday's sweep of Sul Ross State was LCU's first victory since defeating Converse 3-1 on Sept. 5 and its first straight-set victory since sweeping Southwestern Oklahoma State on Aug. 29.
 
-  Sophomore setter Camdyn Sears entered conference play with four double-doubles through LCU's first 10 matches. She recorded consecutive double-doubles against West Texas A&M and Angelo State, including 32 assists and 14 digs against the nationally ranked Belles. Sears entered the opening conference weekend with 251 assists and 97 digs while averaging 7.84 assists per set, which ranked fifth in the Lone Star Conference. She has also surpassed 1,500 career assists this season.
 
- Freshman middle blocker Kayson Reeves entered LSC play as LCU's most efficient regular attacker, carrying a .301 hitting percentage through the completed nonconference schedule. Reeves also led the Lady Chaps with 30 total blocks and averaged 0.94 per set. Her opening 10 matches included a 10-kill performance on a .643 hitting percentage against No. 21 Lynn and seven kills on a .316 clip against No. 9 Angelo State.
 
- Camryn Blair entered conference action as LCU's leader in kills and points, totaling 84 kills and 101.0 points through the first 10 matches. Her nonconference schedule included four double-figure kill performances, highlighted by 17 kills, four service aces and a career-high 22.0 points in the victory over Converse. Blair also entered the weekend with 17 total blocks and seven service aces.
 
- Blocking remained LCU's strongest statistical category through the end of nonconference play. The Lady Chaps averaged 1.94 blocks per set, ranking seventh in the LSC and 75th nationally, with 62.0 total blocks through 32 sets. Reeves led LCU with 30 blocks, followed by Aubree Lundberg with 20, while Tatum Fleitman and Blair each had 17. LCU recorded 10 blocks against Angelo State for its second double-digit blocking performance of the season.
 
- LCU's defensive effort showed improvement over the final weekend of nonconference play. The Lady Chaps recorded 54 digs against West Texas A&M before matching their season high with 65 against Angelo State. Ramsey Clark led LCU with 18 digs against ASU, Sears added 14 and Lauren Hanson established a career high with 11. Through the conclusion of nonconference play, Clark led the Lady Chaps with 114 digs and averaged 3.56 per set.
 
- Official statistics from Thursday's victory at Sul Ross State remain under review and are being re-statted. The confirmed result moves LCU to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference play, but individual and team statistical totals from the match are not included in these notes pending completion of the official statistical review
 
LOOKING AT WNMU
- LCU and Western New Mexico are meeting for the 18th time all-time, marking the eighth meeting as conference foes. LCU has won the prior nine meetings, which have been since 1996 (last seven meetings have been since 2009). LCU's nine-match win streak in the series has them leading the series 10-7 (the series goes back to 1986). LCU is 2-2 all-time in Lubbock against WNMU, winning their previous meeting in Lubbock 3-1 (Nov. 5, 2022). LCU is 4-1 all-time in Silver City, with Sept. 10, 1993 (2-0 WNMU) marking LCU's only visit prior to the 2019 season. The Lady Chaps have won their prior four trips to Silver City, including a 3-1 win in their prior visit (Oct. 23, 2024).
 
-  Western New Mexico enters Saturday at 6-6 overall and 0-1 in Lone Star Conference play after falling 3-0 to Midwestern State on Thursday at Drag's Court. The Mustangs dropped the match 25-17, 25-22, 27-25 despite rallying from a 22-16 deficit to take a 25-24 lead in the third set. WNMU has now lost three of its last four matches after previously putting together a five-match winning streak. The Mustangs are 0-2 at home this season, 2-1 on the road and 4-3 in neutral-site matches.
 
- Blocking remains Western New Mexico's biggest strength. The Mustangs have 99.0 total blocks through 42 sets and average 2.36 per set. Daphne Posthumus leads the team with 48 total blocks and averages 1.14 per set, while Brynlee Barris has 35 blocks and Hailey Meeks has 25. WNMU recorded five solo blocks against Midwestern State, including three from Barris, and continues to hold opponents to a .151 attack percentage for the season.
 
- Posthumus also leads the Western New Mexico offense with 104 kills and averages 2.48 per set while hitting .300. Barris follows with 89 kills on a .287 attack percentage, while Jayden Hughes has 73 kills and Isabella Brewer has 71 while hitting .271. Jade Rampton led WNMU against Midwestern State with nine kills on a .333 clip, while Barris added seven kills and 10 points. As a team, the Mustangs are hitting .223 while averaging 11.88 kills per set.
 
- Western New Mexico continues to use multiple setters, with Hannah Haggard leading the team with 191 assists and averaging 4.66 per set, while Savanna Haefs has 150 assists at 4.05 per set. Haefs recorded a team-high 16 assists against Midwestern State. Mikelle McAfee anchors the back row with 156 digs and averages 3.71 per set after posting a team-high 11 digs Thursday. WNMU enters Saturday averaging 12.98 digs and 1.45 service aces per set.
