MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (September 5, 2026) – Lubbock Christian University closed play at the Barry Invitational on Saturday with a 3-0 loss (25-11, 25-16, 25-11) to No. 13 Barry at the Health & Sports Center.
The Lady Chaparrals fell to 4-4, while Barry improved to 4-2. The Buccaneers entered the match coming off a five-set victory over No. 1 St. Cloud State and carried that momentum into the tournament finale, hitting .425 with 39 kills and only five attack errors. Barry also recorded 12 service aces while holding LCU to 27 kills and a .083 attack percentage.
Kayson Reeves led the Lady Chaps offensively with seven kills and added two block assists.
Leigh Jespersen and
Camryn Blair each finished with five kills, while
Camdyn Sears contributed four kills on eight attacks and handed out 21 assists.
Sears' performance pushed the sophomore setter past 1,500 career assists. She finished the match with 1,508 career assists, becoming the first Lady Chap to reach the milestone since Kayton Genenbacher in 2023.
LCU remained within 17-14 during the second set before Barry closed the frame on an 8-2 run. The Buccaneers then hit .476 in the third set to complete the sweep.
The loss moved LCU to 0-3 against nationally ranked opponents this season and 0-2 in road matches.

Camdyn Sears surpassed 1,500 career assists and has 1,508 in her collegiate career. Kayton Genenbacher was the last Lady Chaps setter to reach 1,500 career assists, as she completed the task on Sept. 23, 2023 (at Oklahoma Christian) and eventually finished with 3,237 career assists.
» Barry, coming off a five-set win over No.1 St. Cloud State in their prior game, kept their momentum going, as they hit .425 in the match. The best performance at the net by an LCU opponent since Texas Woman's hit .483 against LCU on Oct. 11, 2023. Barry also found success at the net with 12 aces, which is the most the Lady Chaps have surrendered since Sept. 13, 2024 against Concordia Irvine.

Kristyn Grantham made her collegiate debut in the third set and produced her first kill.
» LCU drops to 0-3 this season against nationally ranked programs. They are seeking their first win over a nationally ranked program since defeating No.25 West Texas A&M at home on Nov. 6, 2021, as they have dropped 10 consecutive games against nationally ranked programs since.

How It Happened
SET 1 | BU 25, LCU 11
- The Buccaneers won the first three points and stretched the lead to 7-1 before the Lady Chaps cut it to 7-4 with a
Kayson Reeves kill, a block by Reeves and Sears, and a
Leigh Jespersen kill.
- BU answered by pushing the margin to 12-5, then later moved ahead 16-7 with Veronika Eremeeva and Sofya Toropova contributing kills.
- The Lady Chaps added kills from
Aubree Lundberg, Sears and
Camryn Blair during the second half of the set, but the Buccaneers closed with the final three points, including back-to-back service aces by Veronika Eremeeva, to take the set 25-11.
- Eremeeva and Toropova each had five kills in the set for BU.
SET 2 | BU 25, LCU 16
- The teams traded points early, with Jespersen and Reeves kills helping the Lady Chaps stay even through a 5-5 tie.
- The Buccaneers moved ahead 11-6 behind a Veronika Eremeeva kill and three consecutive service aces, then extended the margin to 16-9 to complete a 11-4 scoring surge.
- The Lady Chaps answered with kills from
Tatum Fleitman,
Camryn Blair, Sears and Reeves to get back within 17-14.
- BU pulled away from there, using a Toropova ace and two late McKayla Theleus kills to finish the set 25-16 for an 8-2 run.

Lauren Hanson's ace brought the Lady Chaps even at 3-3, and kills from Reeves kept the Lady Chaps within 6-5 during the opening stretch.
- The Buccaneers moved ahead 10-5 behind a Varvara Osychenko ace and consecutive Lady Chaps attack errors, then pushed the margin to 17-7 with a run that included a Thalia Iglesias ace, two blocks and a Francesca Good kill, which aided the 7-2 run.
- Grantham, Reeves and Jespersen added late kills for the Lady Chaps, but BU finished the set 25-11 on a Veronika Eremeeva kill.
What's Next
The Lady Chaps will now return to the Lone Star State for their first games in Texas, jumping into the Lone Star Conference Challenge (used to be called the Lone Star Conference Crossover) and heading to San Angelo to Sept. 11 to face No.25 West Texas A&M (Friday at 6 p.m.) and No.14 Angelo State (Saturday at 2 p.m.) inside Junell Center for a pair of non-conference games (the final games of LCU's non-conference slate).
