Box Score ODESSA, Texas (September 25, 2014) – A pair of second half goals and a clean sheet by
Lauren Story helped Lubbock Christian University end a three-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over University of Texas of the Permian Basin Thursday night in a non-conference contest.
After a scoreless first half,
Brooke Wendl opened the game's scoring. Wendl scored her sixth goal of the season in the 50th minute for a 1-0 lead for the Lady Chaparrals. The goal was assisted by Story for her first career offensive point.
Kristin Fellows provided LCU an insurance goal with her first of the season in the 64th minute. Fellows' goal was off a header from a corner kick by
Jamie Boone and it was her third goal of her career.
Story was able to keep UTPB off the scoreboard stopping three shots in the shutout. It was her third shutout of the season and her program career leading 10th at LCU. Boone was credited with the game winning goal. She increases her career program record marks in goals (29) and game winning goals (10) with the tally.
LCU out-shot UTPB 21-6 in the game and had a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. Story received the win to improve to 4-2-0. Reigning Heartland Conference Defender of the Week, Ebony Campbell suffered the loss (1-4-1). Coming off consecutive shutouts, she allowed two goals and made 10 saves. LCU had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Lady Chaps snapped their three-game losing streak and improved to 4-3-0 on the season. UTPB had been unbeaten in their prior two games, but fall to 1-5-1 with the loss. LCU, 1-2-0 on their current road trip, complete their four-game road trip Tuesday in Hobbs, N.M. facing University of the Southwest at Hobbs High School.
