Box Score LAREDO, Texas (September 6, 2014) – Another solid performance by
Erin Fisher and a game-high 13 kills from
Channing Castleberry guided Lubbock Christian to a 3-0 sweep over Heartland Conference rival Texas A&M International University Saturday afternoon at the Kinesiology and Convocation Building to cap a 3-0 start to the 2014 season for the Lady Chaps.
Fisher once again led all players with 28 assists, along with 10 digs, a career-high six kills, and an ace on the afternoon, while
Kyleigh Lucia tied a career-high with three service aces and had a team-high 11 digs to give LCU a 6-0 all-time record over the Dustdevils. The Lady Chaps saved their best attacking performance of the season for the final set of the road trip, hitting an impressive .400 to seal the match against TAMIU.
The match started rather evenly until a kill by Fisher gave LCU an advantage at 5-4 that was only relinquished at an 11-11 tie in part to a trio of Lady Chap errors. The same back luck struck the Dustdevils as they committed three consecutive miscues that preceded a Lucia ace and Fisher kill to put LCU up 17-11. A TAMIU timeout proved worthwhile as the Dustdevils went on a 4-0 run to close the gap to 17-15, but the Lady Chaps put five unanswered points on the board to blow the game open and went on to win 25-17.
An ace by
Malori Maddox gave LCU the first point of set two, followed by a block by
Ariel Froeschl and
Abby White along with a kill by
Maddie Johnson for a 3-0 Lady Chap lead. LCU jumped ahead 14-7 and then extended the lead to 20-11 on another Froeschl and White block to cruise to a 25-18 victory.
Game three was more closely contested, as the Dustdevils had the game knotted at 14-14, but once again TAMIU's errors proved costly, as LCU regained the lead and went up 17-14. Two kills by
Christiana Tavo and an ace by Fisher widened the Lady Chap lead to 21-15, and at 23-17 Lucia closed the match with a pair of service aces.
For the Dustdevils, Miaje Hubbard compiled 11 kills and Amanda Wesner had 27 assists.
The Lady Chaps host Oklahoma Panhandle State in their home opener Thursday, September 11 at 7 p.m. in the Rip Griffin Center.
