Late rallies propel Lady Chaps to win over old rival
PLAINVIEW, Texas (September 29, 2015) – Less than two points separated the first three sets between Lubbock Christian University and Wayland Baptist Tuesday night at the Hutcherson Center before the Lady Chaparrals wrapped up set four to take the match victory (26-24, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20) of the old Sooner Athletic Conference rivals.
Tonight marked the 62nd meeting of the Lady Chaps (8-6, 3-2 Heartland) and Pioneers (14-4, 4-1 SAC), with LCU entering the contest owning a 50-11 series advantage. The squads had not faced one another since LCU had made the transition from the NAIA into the NCAA. The Pioneers took the last win between the teams back in 2012.
The Lady Chaps were paced by three players with double-digit kills, led by Kacey Deterding's season-high 15. Christiana Tavo recorded a dozen and Emily Hanaway contributed 11. Mallory Powell tied her career-high in assists with 51, and Kelsie French collected a game-high 29 digs.
