All-Time Series: LCU leads 55-15
It is "Senior Day" at Hays Field Sunday, as Lubbock Christian University closes out a three-game Heartland Conference series with a rubber match at 1 p.m.
The two teams split a Saturday doubleheader at Hays Field, as OC won the opener 7-2 and LCU won the second game 18-10. LCU's 18 runs in the second game was the most since they tallied 23 against New Mexico Highlands on Feb. 6, and the most in a conference game since scoring 20 against Wayland Baptist on Apr. 26, 2013 (18 is their highest run total in a Heartland Conference game). LCU set a season single-game high in triples (three) and matched a season single-game high in total bases (38). They produced 11 extra-base hits in the game (six doubles, three triples, two homers) and fifteen in the doubleheader. On the day, LCU produced 15 extra-base hits, as four of their five hits in the opener were for extra bases.
LCU (22-22, 9-11), batting .308 overall on the season, is hitting .362 in the series.
Brett Wilhelm (4-for-8) and
Jesse Pintado (4-for-9) each have four hits in the series. The Chaps are expected to start
Levi Westerlund on the mound. The senior is 2-5 with a 5.53 ERA on the season. He came in relief and picked up the win in an 11-6 victory over OC last season. He pitched three innings of hitless baseball.
OC (26-17, 12-11) is hitting .348 in the series (.287 on the season). Zac Cobble leads OC in the series with a .625 batting mark (5-for-8). Cobble and Derek Jones each have four runs-batted-in against LCU. While LCU produced 15 extra-base hits Saturday, OC was not too far behind with 12 extra-base hits (nine doubles, one triple and two homers). Hunter Raley is slated to start on the mound for OC. He is 4-4 in 10 starts and has a 3.83 ERA. Opponents are only batting .232 against him.
Nine seniors will be honored prior to the game. Joining Westerlund will be
Ethan Kohnle,
Wade Stramp,
Stephen Withrow,
Dalton Silva,
Josh Powe,
Elfego Torres,
Brig Gerlich and
Ryan Taylor. The game is LCU's final home game of the season.
