Lady Chaps Close Out Six-Match Homestand Hosting UTPB Tuesday

LCU Takes Three-Match Win Streak Into Fight With Falcons

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 4, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University (8-6) plays the final game of a six-match homestand Tuesday hosting Texas Permian Basin in a non-conference match. LCU heads into the match riding a season-best three-match win streak.

  • The Lady Chaps and Falcons first squared off in 1995 and have met 38 times since, with LCU owning a 35-4 series advantage over the Falcons. UTPB's four back-to-back victories came during the 2005 and 2006 seasons; the Lady Chaps have won the subsequent 13 times. Included in the mix is a 3-0 LCU win on Sept. 9 at the TexAnn invitational in Stephenville, Texas.
  • UTPB, formerly Heartland Conference foes, is a member of the Lone Star Conference, where they are preseason picked 11th in the conference. Thus far this season, UTPB is 1-6 in conference and in 10th place in the standings.
  • The Falcons are coming into this match following a five-match homestand in which they went 0-5 (combined 2-15 set record during the home stand).
  • Caitlyn Guajardo leads UTPB with 2.9 kills per set.
  • The Falcons went 8-17 last season, going 3-7 in road games and 3-6 in non-conference play. This season, UTPB is 3-1 on the road (2-0 in road non-conference play) and 4-5 in non-conference games.

  • The Lady Chaps (8-6 overall) are 5-1 in home games this season and 2-0 in home games against non-conference opponents (5-5 overall against non-conference opponents on the season).
  • The Heartland Conference announced their weekly honors and Mallory Powell has been announced as the Setter of the Week and Christiana Tavo as the Hitter of the Week. Tavo, a right side hitter, helped LCU to a 2-0 week (wins over St. Mary's and Texas A&M Int'l) with 29 kills on the week. She posted a career high 20 against StMU, with a .300 attack percentage to go along with it. She averaged 3.6 kills per set on the week, and also posted nine blocks. Powell registered 79 assists in the two matches, including a season high 52 in LCU's 3-2 win over StMU. She had 9.9 assists per set on the week. Also contributed five kills, three blocks and three aces. Powell has been named the Setter of the Week for the second time this season.
  • Emily Hanaway ranks second in the Heartland Conference in points per set with an average of 3.8 points. 
  • Mallory Powell ranks third in the conference in assists per set at 9.3 per set.
  • Kelsie French ranks 33rd nationally with 297 total digs, with a mark of 5.6 per set (19th nationally).
  • LCU leads the conference holding the opposition to a .133 attack percentage on the season (ranks 27th nationally).
  • LCU's 3-0 win over Texas A&M International was their third 3-0 win of the season. LCU, winners of five straight sets, has not had consecutive straight set match wins this season.
