Chaps Set For First Doubleheader of the Season

LCU Seeking Best Start Since 2011 Season

Lubbock Christian University and New Mexico Highlands University each play their first doubleheader of the season Saturday, and it completes their three-game non-conference series.  The series opened Friday at Hays Field with LCU using a four-run eighth inning to pull away with a 7-2 win. LCU is 5-0 and seeking to remain unbeaten. The last time LCU opened the season better than 5-0 was in 2011, opening the season with a 14-0 mark.
 
Here are some additional series notables:
 
- Friday, LCU did not allow an unearned run, keeping the Chaps mark of unearned runs allowed this season at zero.
- Brett Wilhelm leads LCU in the series with three hits (3-for-4) and three runs. He heads into the day leading the team with a .529 batting average and a .941 slugging mark.
- Brent Stewart is 2-for-4 against the Cowboys and leads LCU in the series with two RBI.
- Easton Garcia co-leads the Cowboys in the series in hits (2-for-4) and has their lone RBI in the series.
- Hunter McFall leads LCU hitting .500 in the series (3-for-6) and Jesse Pintado leads the series in hits with four.
- Blanchette, projected to start the doubleheader's opener, is 0-0 this season and went six innings in his season debut, last Friday, allowing two runs and striking out seven.
- Bezio is scheduled to make his first start in the second game. He pitched 5.2 innings of relief last Saturday and claimed the win allowing two runs and strikeing out six batters.
- LCU is 5-for-8 in the series getting the lead-off batter aboard base.
- The Chaps lead the all-time series 55-19, and holds a 35-8 series advantage at home.
 
WHAT'S NEXT: The Chaps remain home Thursday and will host Angelo State to open a three-game series.
