SATURDAY'S SECOND LOOKHunter McFall hit a pair of home runs and LCU used another solid pitching performance from
Guillaume Blanchette, but the two performances could only lead to a split of a Saturday doubleheader. The Chaparrals opened with a complete game shutout performance by Blanchette in a 6-0 win but then fell 15-7 in the second game against Colorado State University – Pueblo at Rawlings Field.
THE BEEZERLCU is scheduled to have
Brent Bezio make his second start of the season. His prior start came on Feb. 13 in an 8-6 win over New Mexico Highlands. He went six innings in that start and allowed four runs off seven hits. He has made four appearances this season, with three out of the bullpen. Included in the mix was a 5.2 inning long relief outing (Feb. 6 vs. Adams State, claimed the win) and a save on Feb. 19 against No.9 Angelo State.
THE UNKNOWNThe ThunderWolves did not indicate a starting pitcher for the four-game series finale. Cameron Weinberg (0-1, 6.23 ERA) is the only current player on roster with a game started on the mound that has yet to pitch in the series. Weinberg has not lasted longer than 3.2 innings in any appearance this season. If CSU-Pueblo goes a different direction, their pitcher would be making his first start of the season.
Here are some additional series notables:
-
Hunter McFall is hitting .700 (7-for-10) in the series with three extra-base hits (double and two homers). He has a 1.400 slugging mark and 14 total bases.
- LCU was 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts prior to the series. They 0-for-4 in the series.
- Jordan Godman leads CSU-Pueblo in the series with a .455 average (5-for-11). Francis Griffin has 5 RBI for CSU-Pueblo and the ThunderWolves lone homer in the series.
- Six different CSU-Pueblo pitchers have appeared in the series (five from the bullpen) that have not allowed an earned run.
-CSU-Pueblo is hitting .345 in the series with runners in scoring position with 10 hits, while LCU is .179 in the same category with five hits.
- This series is LCU's first road series this series and marks LCU's first ever games played on Colorado soil.
