OPENING HEARTLAND PLAY
Another solid pitching performance by Guillaume Blanchette capped a doubleheader split in Lubbock Christian University's Heartland Conference opening series at Newman Friday at McCarthy Field. Chaps lost the opening game 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but bounced back to win the second game 1-0. It was their first 1-0 win since the 2005 season.
 
RUBBER MATCH PITCHER
LCU is going with Brent Bezio on the mound Saturday, as they try to claim the series. Bezio is making his third start of the season and it will mark his seventh appearance. His last start came in Pueblo, Colo., where he went eight innings and allowed three runs in a 4-3 win  (Feb.28). He struck out nine in that start.
 
HANGAR NEWS
The Jets are going with Kane McCarthy on the mound. McCarthy is 2-1 with a 3.22 ERA. Opponents are hitting .202 against him this season. He is coming off his shortest stint (2.2 innings on Mar.6 vs. Augustana) of the season.
