LUBBOCK, Texas (September 24, 2016) – Lubbock Christian University (5-6, 0-1) continues their opening week of Heartland Conference play Saturday hosting Newman University at noon inside Rip Griffin Center. September is Leukemia Awareness Month and LCU is encouraging all fans to wear orange to help spread leukemia awareness and honor the life of Nora Lyn Williams, the daughter of Casey and Kelsey Williams. Kelsey (maiden name Odell) is a former four-year All-Conference member of the Lady Chaps and her daughter Nora passed away this past August less than three months old.

• The all-time series is knotted up 4-4. The Lady Chaps are looking to end a four-match losing skid to the Jets dating to the 2014 season. Newman has eked out wins in three of the four wins in five sets. LCU took the first four meetings between the teams.
• Newman was preseason picked third in the Heartland Conference polls. They went 13-3 in conference last season.
• The Jets opened up their conference schedule Thursday with a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State and have won two straight matches. Kayla Turner had 11 kills in the win for NU.
• With already 16 matches played, Newman leads the nation in many statistical categories, including assists (720), digs (1,088), kills (777) and kill attempts (2,239).
• The Jets ranked third nationally in digs per set (19.8), with Anna Burton ranking fifth in digs per set (6.3). She has 269 digs, ranking third nationally.

• The Lady Chaps (5-6 overall) take a 2-1 home record into the contest. They had a 10-match home win streak snapped with their loss Thursday to Arkansas Fort Smith.
• From a five-match sequence (Sept. 6 – Sept.10), LCU had an average of 18.6 attack errors per match, but in their past two games, LCU has averaged 27.5 attack errors per match.
• LCU leads the Heartland Conference in blocks per set with 2.2 per set (44^th nationally). Individually, Ariel Froeschl (fifth, 0.8 per set) and Emily Hanaway (sixth, 0.8) rank in the top-10 in the conference. 
• Mallory Powell ranks second in the conference in assists per set at 9.1 per set.
• Kelsie French ranks 42^nd nationally with 216 total digs, with a mark of 5.3 per set (34^th nationally).
• LCU leads the conference holding the opposition to a .152 attack percentage on the season.
• Of LCU's 22 sets in which they have lost this season, seven (32%) have been sets lost by two points (as close as you can lose in a set), including four of their last eight sets. They have lost 10 of their 22 sets by three or less points.
